Rating: Summary: Last Time They Met Review: Great book, starts a little slow but ends with a bang. I'm not usually surprised by endings but was by this one. It made me want to go back and read again so I could pay more attention to the "little details."
Rating: Summary: A book to put on your list of MUST-READ titles Review: I have read all of Anita Shreve's books and have enjoyed them all. I was surprised to see the many negative reviews about the ending of this book. The ending was a masterpiece - I kept wondering how the book would end - expecting some sort of a twist - but not THAT twist!! From the very beginning, the book held my attention - it was a real "page-turner". Also, the fact that Thomas Janes was a character in "The Weight of Water" wasn't a problem at all - the book would be just as enjoyable even if you had never heard of Thomas Janes - Anita Shreve explained his reason for being so distraught very clearly. Finally - read "The Last Time They Met" - you will LOVE it!!!
Rating: Summary: A star-crossed Sixth Sense Review: I love all work by Anita Shreve. Her writing is rich, lush and engrossing. She is a wonderful storyteller. This book drew me in and sent me back in time with these star-crossed lovers to the enevitable moment, the unexpected climax.... I didn't see it coming until the final page. Great read!
Rating: Summary: I was left thinking.. and thinking... and thinking Review: I am a big fan of Anita Shreve. I have always loved and become attached to all of the main characters in her books. This book however really kept in me awe at the last page. I too kept re-reading past pages to see if I missed anything. Did Thomas tell this story? This book left me thinking about the movie "Somewhere in Time". I applaude Anita Shreve for a very well written story, but I'm not sure what to tell of Linda's life.
Rating: Summary: Horrible ending Review: I cannot believe I read that entire book, to have it end as it did. I was soooo disappointed. I guess that's why the quotations were in italics(that really bothered me throughout the book). I wish I had borrowed it and not purchased it. I really stayed with the book because I enjoyed her other ones, but it was really slow at the beginning. I probably will not buy her next book, unless someone close to me reads it first and gives me their review.
Rating: Summary: What a waste of time..... Review: I'm half way through the book and can't read it any more. I kept plugging away hoping that it would get better but it hasn't and now I give up. I loved "The Pilot's Wife and Fortune's Rocks. This was nothing like either of those!!!
Rating: Summary: Great writing, a very emotional and heartfelt love story Review: The Last Time They Met is a very well-written story about star-crossed lovers who keep meeting by chance throughout their lives. The beginning is very drawn out, but as the story progresses and moves back in time, scenes happen a little faster, which seems like part of a techique (life seems to go by faster when you're younger). My favorite part of the novel was their time spent together in Africa. The ending is absolutely genius and will make you want to re-read the whole story for bits and pieces that seem to tie together once you finish the story. This is the first novel I read by Shreve and I'm online now to buy another!
Rating: Summary: Borrow from the library Review: I am very glad that this was a library book for me, and not a purchase. I would have been furious. Yes, the writing is lush and beautiful, as I have enjoyed with Anita Shreve's earlier work. And YES, the ending was unfair. What was the point?
Rating: Summary: last pages will SHOCK you Review: At first I struggled with this book .....having some trouble keeping details straight but I pursued and am I glad I did. Read this book. Stay with it. Don't dare look at ending. Enjoy
Rating: Summary: A Haunting Decent into Madness describes this book perfectly Review: The reviewer who described this book as "a haunting decent into madness" really captured my feelings on the story. It is not a story about adultry, but of tragic losses and how life can altered in a split second. Deeply moving. I also had to go back to the beginning and reread a few chapters.
