Rating: Summary: Was she reading my diary???? Review: I read the book in two sittings. I was unable to stop turning the pages. Finally a sorority invigorating enough to join. My favorite part entailed the ladies venturing out to the bar and picking up the two guys. That brought so many memories back to my college days. Boy, life is great! Not to mention I'm sure the firehouse has never been HOTTER!!! Great Book. Must Read.
Rating: Summary: Stop Kidding Yourselves Review: As a people, why Black folk continue to praise the works of those with an at best high school writing capacity is beyond me. Zane, Omar Tyree, Eric Jerome Dickey and others write stories of fiction that help to delude our collective concious (SP?). Young sisters have never read Dubois, or Douglass, or Morrisson outside of school yet I bet they've skimmed the Sex Chronicles... It depresses me to an extent. Similar to many rap videos the aforementioned authors are the "bling-bling" of Black literature and should be held accountable for the dreams they sell our people. When Zane first broke (quick aside, I work at a bookstore) I was on the Sex Chronicles waaaaaay b4 the mass public. When the cover was cartoony and oh so cheap looking I gave it a chance, enjoyed it (minutely) as something new and looked forward to the next pages written by the scribe....However after reading all four of her books (it only took a rainy Saturday) I fully understood that ALL of her works are the same and the only changes to be made are with bed partners.
Rating: Summary: ZANE GOT SOFT! Review: I am a very big fan of Zane and own all her books. However, I feel that this is not one of her best works. After reading sex chronicles 1 & 2 I expected more ......something!! Overall it was an o.k read but not what I was expecting. Especially from Zane
Rating: Summary: Reality Check Review: I am not saying ALL, but MOST women want to venture out like Mary Ann did. This book was an opener, if anything. It showed, proved that women can have men as men have women .. at their fingertips. Jumping when we say jump and asking us, "how high?". I recommend this book for all who seek 'answers' or have 'questions' about being sexually, emotionally free ... or staying 'bonded' ...
Rating: Summary: Sexy and liberating story Review: When she arrives in Washington D.C., a fresh law student who's never been out of South Dakota before, African-American Mary Ann Ferguson brings her rural morals and hangups. But R.A. Patricia Reynolds sees potential. Sexy, intelligent, and fun, Mary Ann might just be the type of woman that the secret sisterhood of APF (Alphi Phi F**kem) is looking for. APF helps African-American women develop self-confidence and leadership abilities, runs a successful investment club, and also holds monthly 'freak nights' where the sisters round up strangers for a theme-party orgy. Mary Ann has a lot of growing to do before she's ready for APF or for the challenges of being a big-city lawyer. Dreamboat 3rd year law student Trevor Ames is instantly attracted to Mary Ann, but he isn't much in the sack department and he doesn't seem to want to give up on Fe Fe as a stand-in. Then there's Mary Ann's ex-boyfriend back in South Dakota. Most critical, though, are Mary Ann's sexual hangups--hangups that prevent her from having a truly free and enjoyable sexual experience. Until she can enjoy sex for herself rather than as a part of satisfying a man, she won't be ready for APF, or for a mature relationship with a man. Through the novel, the three primary protagonists, Mary Ann, Patricia, and Olive, all discover or deepen their relationships with a true male partner, but do so in the context of their sexual liberation. While APF is a secret not shared with their men, the men ultimately benefit by having sexually enthusiastic partners. Author Zane's writing is fast-paced and sexy with enough dialect to give the story an authentic flavor without detracting from readability. The material is sexually explicit and deals with issues of adultery. The easily offended will want to stay clear. Those who enjoy a steamy and liberating story of modern women will find THE SISTERS OF APF highly enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting read... Review: As usual with Zane. Quick-read. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed!! Review: I ordered this book immediately because I loved Addicted. I was expecting the same type of story, instead I kept reading it hoping it would get better it didn't. The story is simple - a country girl moves to the big city and hooks up with someone that immediately feels that this girl (regardless of how she looks) could be a member of her secret sorority. Country girl becomes sexually liberated and participates in lewd sex acts. End of story. While I would hate to jump on Zane, I think at this point she's putting out as many books as possible to make money. The quality of her work is not up to par. And she says that she has several more books coming out. I don't think I'll be buying anymore. This was a huge disappointment.
Rating: Summary: A sorority Like no otha Review: Zane is at it again. Taking a short story from her book The Sex Chronicles, she records the indoctrination of Soror Ride . . .. Mary Ann is an innocent young lady from North Dakota who got a scholarship to attend to law school in Washington D.C. Patricia is the first person Mary Ann meets and she decides that she will be the one to guide Mary Ann on the ends and outs of law school and D.C. Patricia has a sense about Mary Ann that she may be interested in her local investment club and invites her to a meeting. But this is no ordinary investment club and the members are not too particular about strangers coming in. It is at this meeting Mary Ann is introduced to Olive. Though their first meeting was not a good one, Olive eventually leads Mary Ann to a form of liberation-sexual liberation. This is Mary Ann's introduction to The Sisters of APF. This book was interesting for much more than the raw in your face sex, which is a part of it, but because it clearly tracks a woman's sexual emancipation. Everyone who has been to college knows of that one girl who gets away from their parents and gets buck wild. Mary Ann is that girl. Whether you agree with Mary Ann's decisions or not it was fascinating watching her step out of her comfort zone and increasingly takes risks. Zane even included a scene of discovery in a place called "Heaven" that was reminiscent of a scene in the movie Trois 2. I grew somewhat wary of the slang usage especially with professional women and there was not a great point of climax for me in the novel. However, this book kept my interested and if you are a fan of Zane's you will get caught up. If there are no real chapters of APF, I suspect there soon will be. Kotanya APOOO BookClub
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but not mind blowing..... Review: I have read 2 of Zane's other books, and to be quite honest, she's entertaining, but I wouldn't call them fascinating. In my opinion it's good reading, summer fluff. Most of her stories sound vaguely familiar (I'm sorry, but the part when Mary Ann follows Olive and her man in the alleyway?, straight up 9 1/2 weeks, seen it. I mean Jackie Collins wrote this stuff back in the 80's; does anybody remember reading Chances? I was a preteen then and found it the sexual stories hot,). I can only say that the only way you think that any of this stuff is sexy and exciting, is either you haven't been there and done that, or repressed sexually and need some spice in your life. If that's the case, read on, you will definitely get some ideas. Support the sista and buy the book anyway, someone else will get a kick out of it.
Rating: Summary: Zane has done better Review: This book was about a country girl that goes to college in the "big city" and is exposed to a new lifestyle...a secret sorority. This is a spin off from one on Zane's stories in the first Sex Chronicles book. It was okay...I think her other books (Addicted, Shame on it all, Heatseekers) were better. This one seemed to drag on.
