Rating: Summary: A realistic look at the intricacies of female friendship Review: I don't usually read "chick books" but I am so glad I bought The Saving Graces. I have already passed it on to three friends- including my Mother, and we all agree that The Saving Graces is an exceptionally well written, realistic and touching look at the special connection we share with our female friends. I feel like I know Emma personally, and rarely does a character resonate with me that way. This book actually brought me to tears!!! It was beautiful and funny at the same time- I highly recommend it. After you are finished with it, pass it along to a good friend.
Rating: Summary: A hidden jewel of a book Review: this is a MUST read for women of all ages - Mothers and daughters, sisters and friends - could not put it down .... (my "once in a blue moon" book in that category) this is the MOST enjoyable book I have read in a long time - laughs and tears abound.....
Rating: Summary: A "must read" for any woman who values female friendships Review: As an avid reader who is also extremely busy keeping my own business afloat, I am constantly looking for books that are well written and worthwhile to read. "Saving Graces" is my pick for the summer of 1999 ... I could not put it down. I laughed and definitely cried ... the emotional roller-coaster was well worth it. I think I would ultimately like to become Isabel and found that I identified with Lee and Rudy and Emma in ways that were both enlightening and scary. It also made me realize that I have much work to do in cultivating realtionships that are real and worthwhile. BRAVO to Ms Gaffney! With that kind of insight, you must be a wonderful friend. I hope a movie is made.
Rating: Summary: Very emotional, a wonderful "chick-flick" in a book. Review: My daughter brought this book to my attention and she said she thought of me when she read about it. I have 5 "old" girlfriends from high school that I still keep in good contact with. Emma, Rudy, Isabel & Lee didn't know each other as long as I have known my friends, but their relationships are just what my friends and I share. Sometimes I get so frustrated with one of them, but we still remain very good, close friends. In fact, we just had another one of our get togethers at a beach house in Mendocino...I just wish I had read this wonderful book then so I could pass it on to each of them. One of my friends is having her birthday in a few weeks and I am sending a copy of this book to her for read and enjoy as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: I laughed and cried! Review: This is the exact type of book I absolutely love to read. Four women with the best friendship, and four women with a different set of problems. I laughed with them and cried with them, I feel like I'm right in there with them. You've gotta get this book!
Rating: Summary: Read This Book! Review: Here's how much I loved this book: I'd read the first hundred pages. I really needed to run an errand that was going to take almost forty minutes each way. So I stopped at the library and got the audio version and listened to it in the car. When I got back home I went ahead and read all the parts I'd listened to anyway, because I wanted to get anything I'd missed and besides that way it wouldn't end so soon.
Rating: Summary: The power of friendship between girlfriends Review: A must read book for anyone who has friends, but often neglects them because of the stressed out environment we live in. You bond with the book as much as you bond with your friends. It's powerful in it's message: you never have to feel lonely when you have a great set of friends. I'm giving the book to all the girls in my group for Christmas. It will make them feel good about themselves and us. I'm going to give it as a gift to one of my friends who has a control freak husband and can't leave. I hope it gives her the strength she needs, and to let her know she has friends who care, and can be there for her. A fantastic book.
Rating: Summary: Saving Graces saved my summer. Review: Saving Graces is the type of book that is made for summer. You sit on your blanket reading about Isabel,Lee, Rudy and Emma and time has no meaning. You'll laugh and cry and cheer for the exploits of these extrordinary women. I have recommended this book to everyone I know and so you're next.Welcome to the world of hardbacked books Ms. Gaffney. You belong here.
Rating: Summary: GREAT SUMMER READING!!!! Review: In my search to find one last lazy summer weekend read, I stumbled upon the "Savings Grace" title. Having no previous knowledge of author or critics review, took a chance and glad that I did. The strength and honesty of the relationships between friends made me sit back and think of my own circle of friends. Shared the book with my best friend!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best novels Review: I have ever read and I have read a lot of them. It seems that now more than ever it is very difficult to find a book that captures my interest and holds it through the whole story. I had not heard or read anything about this book - the cover just caught my eye at the library. Once I started, I could not put it down for two days. I am not about l00 pages from the end and I will savor those pages because I do not want these women to leave my life. I know that when I turn the last page, I will miss each of them. I think everyone can see a little of themselves in each of the characters. A terrific read!
