Rating: Summary: Good story but too similar to "Bridges of Madison County" Review: I enjoy all of N. Sparks' books, this one as well. Had I not been familiar with the movie "Bridges of Madison County", I probably would have enjoyed it even more.
Rating: Summary: A nice love story that is believable Review: The best thing about this love story was that it seemed realistic. It wasn't too sappy or overly romantic. You get to know the two main characters very well and feel like they are real people. They are not perfect, but the delicate way they deal with each other is touching. This story is nicely written with beautiful descriptions. I could clearly envision the house, beach, and town (etc). Obviously, this is an emotional book (as I guess all N. Sparks books are), so be prepared to shed a tear or two. I don't think one will regret reading this book. It is sad and uplifting all together.
Rating: Summary: Male Danielle Steele Review: Sappy, shallow romance written by a male. Danielle Steet fans should love this new offering by Nicholas Sparks. Fans who enjoyed earlier works by Sparks may be sadly disappointed, as I was.
Rating: Summary: Bridges without the spark Review: Many others have commented on the similarity of this Nicholas Sparkes novel to The Bridges of Maddison County. I agree but with a major qualification. This novel lacked the tension and the moral dilemma of Bridges. Nights in Rodanthe had a lacklustre plot loosely similar to Bridges but unfailingly stripped of all points of interest. (And Bridges is not great literature either) The main characters were free to get together and there was never any doubt that they would. And because of the context of Adrienne's telling of the story to her daghter there was also never any doubt about Paul's fate. But let's consider the telling of the story for a moment. Sparkes would have us believe that Adrienne told Amanada the story to help her to overcome her own grief. I wonder if Sparkes has ever experienced real grief. I found it difficult to believe the premise that Amanda would be jolted out of her grief by her mother's story. I also struggled with Adrienne's motivation. I just couldn't fall for the simplistic notion that the story was told to help Amanda through her grief. It seemed much more plausible that Adrienne told Amanda the story in response to her comment that Adrienne couldn't understand what she was going through because divorce was different to death. Perhaps not quite so noble a purpose. Save your money. If there was an option of no stars that's what I would have chosen.
Rating: Summary: Is He Too Full of Himself Now?! Review: The Notebook is my all-time favorite book, but I have had enough of the same, predictable stories! Nights in Rodanthe was the last Sparks book I will read until he comes up with something more original and with that same passion he had early on. I think I found out why so many people are dissatisfied with his latest work. On his own website, he writes: "I try to write the type of novel that great numbers of people will enjoy. In other words, the novels I write aren't necessarily what I want to write; instead, they are novels that people want to read." So he is admitting that he doesn't write from a deep inner passion, rather he just uses a formula to create a story for the masses. That explains it. If you want to see ego in action, take a tour through his site. Me, me, me, aren't I great?! I miss the Nicholas of old!!
Rating: Summary: A New Treasure Found! Review: I really enjoyed Nights in Rodanthe. It is the first book I have read by Mr. Sparks. Most of all, I am thankful for the readers who suggested I pick up Kirk Martin's books. I devoured Shade of the Maple in one sitting, then read the excerpts for the new book at thegraveldrive.com. I just finished The Gravel Drive last night and I am amazed at the wisdom that comes from such a young man. I am equally amazed that he can write such beautiful stories in different genres. I cant wait for the next novels by these two wonderful authors.
Rating: Summary: OH NO, NOT AGAIN! Review: I've long grown bored with formula installment authors that write the same book over and over again, but in the last decade it seems that ALL the writers now write the SAME novel over and over again. The names on the title should read:Cherry Nora Devereaux or Danielle Jackie Patchett. Maybe they all give kickbacks to one another . . . No genre suffers from this redundancy more than romance, from cover to cover inside and out the only variable is the time and place--- Sinewy muscled man, with flared nostrils planting crush kisses onto the lips of the raven or flaxen haired maven--quivering loins, heaving chests, trembling hands and gazing eyes that give endless looks that hide or reveal the love brewing beneath the surface. This book is the worst of more of the same. There are two new romance novels known to me that are completely unique with great storylines and fantastic characters- CLONED LOVE and TAKEN BY SURPRISE. I read them online and when they come out look for them, because they are great.
Rating: Summary: More Sparks Review: Another touching story from Nicholas Sparks - I read through it in one sitting! Cannot wait to read The Wedding, the follow up to The Notebook. In the meantime, for Sparks fans hungry for a great read, try Shade of the Maple and The Garvel Drive by Kirk Martin and The Last Promise by Richard Paul Evans.
Rating: Summary: That's O'kay Review: Everyone said this book was alot like Bridges of Madison County, and they were right. But that's okay. It was very good and very well written. When it comes to romance I tend to like things in the style of Lindsey, but I really liked this book. I also loved "Anything, My Love" by Cynthia Simmons. I like love stories that make me feel good. Books I can't put down. This book was all that.
Rating: Summary: Read it. It's wonderful. Review: Last night, I started reading Nights of Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. Well, I ended up starting...and finishing the book last night. 208 pages in 3.5 hours. I've never read a book so quickly. It's WONDERFUL. On a scale of 1 to 10, before reading the book last night, I would have given Jan Karon a 9. After reading Nights of Rodanthe, she drops down to a 5 (and Sparks is a 10). This is a beautiful book, but beware...I SOBBED! I think I actually became dehidrated. I needed 2 very large glasses of water after I finished. Read it. It's wonderful!
