Summary: Not his normal page turner...
Review: ...but "Nights in Rodanthe" was enjoyable. The love story followed the formula that Sparks always uses, but the focus seemed more on the mother/daughter relationship than the love story. This was a nice twist, but Nicholas needs to stick with what he knows.

This was a BIG letdown for Sparks' followers. The book is short and not as exciting to read as his previous romances.

Read the book, don't expect anything outstanding.

Summary: Still not as good as The Notebook
Review: I absolutely loved The Notebook. And I've read everything else that Nicholas Sparks has written as soon as it comes out. When I heard that Nights of Rodanthe was on the way, I pre-ordered it here at Amazon. I received the book on the day I was heading out of town. On the plane, I read the entire thing. Total flight time...less than 3 hours...and I was done.

Sparks has an amazing way with words. It's almost indescribable how he captures the emotions of his characters. I want to love and be loved the way his characters do.

Nights in Rodanthe was good...but The Notebook is still #1 for me.

Summary: strong relationship drama
Review: With her daughter unable to move on from the sudden death of her husband, sixty-year-old Adrienne Willis decides to tell her a true story about how she rebounded from losing her spouse. Fifteen years ago, Adrienne felt her world ended when her husband and father of their three children deserted her for a younger woman. Adrienne knew life was over for a washed up old maid with nothing to offer like she was and wondered what she would do with no one to care for as she always had too much responsibility for nurturing others at the cost of herself.

Adrienne explains that in Rodanthe, North Carolina she met Dr. Paul Flanner, a surgeon with no time for his wife and son as work was everything to him. His world collapsed when a patient died. Paul and Adrienne found solace with one another. Though their love affair healed both of them, they realized that it must be a beautiful memory once they leave this coastal North Carolina town and go back to join the living.

NIGHTS IN RODANTHE is a strong relationship drama starring two likable protagonists who could have been cast as the lead characters in several other Nicholas Sparks' novels. The story line is fun for new fans, but will lose some spark for long time readers, as everything seems inevitable. Why Mr. Sparks used the "flashback" technique to tell his story is never explained, but he still provides a warm tale that readers will appreciate.

Summary: Cardboard Characters and Predictable Ending Disappoint
Review: As a fan of Nicholas Sparks who reads all his work, I am amazed at how predictable and unappealing his latest novel is. I can't overlook the fact that the plot is a virtual copy of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, that the ending is evident within the first few pages, or that the characters fail to ignite any sympathy but remain cardboard cut-outs from first page to last.

I give him credit for attempting to write a passionate middle-aged love story, but must he rely on such hackneyed stereotypes as the lonely, desserted wife and the workaholic man who never stopped to smell the roses? And while it is true that people can change at any age, the transformation of Paul Flanner just doesn't ring true.

Sparks has not forgotten how to write a tear-jerker, however, and this one will leave you at least misty or most likely crying a bucketful of tears. But this is Nicholas Sparks, so you didn't really expect "happily ever after," did you?

However, the most insulting thing about this book to me was the premise that two nights of good talk and good sex can change your life forever and make you wiser, happier, and more together than you could possibly imagine no matter what else happens to you. Whatever happened to building a relationship on trust, friendship, respect, and passion?

Readers have gotten much better from Nicholas Sparks in the past and will, hopefully, do so in the future.

Summary: Sparks has done it again!
Review: True to form, Nicholas Sparks writes another wonderful love story. And again, we can all learn to live a better life by reading this story. I've read all his books - The Notebook is my favorite, but they are all 5 stars. Nicholas - keep on writing!

Summary: You'll Love It
Review: Sparks writes the greatest love stories. This could really happen, maybe it did. I wanted a happy ending to show the reader that they were worth the risk.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: Mr. Sparks has outdone himself with this book. I have been waiting for a book like this by him for a year and it was worth the wait. I couldn't stop reading the book and it makes you cry and smile at the same time for finding a love like that once in a lifetime. Mr. Sparks thanks for a wonderful and tender romantic story for the hopeless romantic.

Summary: Enjoyable Read
Review: Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors and I was thrilled when I found out he had a new book out. This book was an old-fashioned love story about 2 people finding true love with each other. The two main characters, Adrienne Willis and Paul Flanner were both extremely likable characters and I found myself rooting for them to be together forever. I don't want to give anything away but I will say the ending was predictable and not a complete surprise. I still really enjoyed this book and felt fulfilled when it was over. Nicholas Sparks has such a wonderful way with words and is a true romantic. I can't wait till his next book!
