Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: If you are looking for a book that it a quick read with a wonderful story, this book is just right for you. This is the first time I read any of his books. I picked it up from my parents house and began reading it and could not put it down. I cried through most of the novel as Landon and Jammie developed their relationship. I am a devout Christian and the references to God and the bible and how it ties into life and having a fulfilled life was very important in the central theme. God was the center of it all and made a miracle come true. It was excellent.
Rating: Summary: "A Walk" in Slow Steps Review: Having read Nicholas Sparks other heartfelt tomes, "Message In A Bottle" and "The Notebook", I was advancedly prepared to read his newest tearjerker. Yep, I had the Kleenex with aloe handy. However, "A Walk To Remember", seemed more like trippingly slow steps of two teenagers finding each other while pushed together during a Christmas play. I wanted to like this book, I really did. Maybe it was me. Maybe it was an unoriginal plot of boy meets girl, boy starts to take on lifes impending adulthood. I just could not wrap myself around Landon Carter and Jaime Sullivan. I might attempt to read it again...when I am in the mood for Sparks' emotional coupling of humor and remembrance. Still worth the buy. Thanks for your interest in my comments--CDS
Rating: Summary: Not His Best Work Review: I was very disappointed after reading this new Nicholas Sparks book. (I cried all throughout his book The Notebook.) After such a big smash hit with The Notebook I thought that this book would bring about the same types of feelings (romance, true love, caring) that The Notebook did. Boy was I wrong....Don't get me wrong the last 20 pages or so were emotional, but the beginning of the book lacks direction and fails to grab the reader and pull you in....I am not giving up on Mr. Sparks yet since The Notebook is #1 on my favorites list, so let us just hope he takes longer to think the emotions and the characters through next time
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: I read this book in one day. It was one of the best that I have read in a long time. I was surprised at how it was written, and the story line. I was sweet and beautiful. It is a definate MUST to read. Anyone who reads it will not have a dry eye, I cried from beginning to end. Superb!
Rating: Summary: A bit too saccharin for my tastes Review: Though his other two books are quite good, if overly sentimental, this book didn't quite do it for me. The story was too syrupy, the characters to young to really be believable. Landon had a very quick change of heart... These could be forgiven, I suppose, if the heroine was not so disgustingly perfect. She wasn't even human (I realize she is only seen through the eyes of a young man in love, but still). Her character had no complexities at all. I suppose my main problem was that the story was too sweet to be believed. It was better before Landon fell in love and before Jamie told him of her illness. After that it was just ridiculous.
Rating: Summary: Trite and Cliche Novel by Nick Sparks Review: This book could quite possibly have been written by a two year old. It is the most trite and cliche novel I have ever read. If you want a book that reads like a bad movie than this book is for you! It takes place in a small town, where a small town boy meets a small town girl in high school and their lives are never the same. How orginal? I am so glad Mr. Sparks decided to grace us with his creativity. I know that I could have wrote it in my sleep. Maybe I am just jealous that I couldn't make money off of writing a book that had such a little effort put in it. Or maybe I am just saddened that a book like this made it to the New York Times Bestsellers list.
Rating: Summary: Remember to Forget this One Review: Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook was probably the best book I read last year. This book is a very pale imitation. The storytelling is enjoyable but by the end of the story you wonder what the whole point was. I felt that Landon would have done more with his life (like actually had one) if Jamie had actually had the impact on him that he claims throughout. The story is interesting and is one you can share with your children but not as deep as Sparks intended.
Rating: Summary: So This Is True Love... Review: I have read fewer books in my life than most, mainly due to the fact that I can't find many that can keep my attention. A Walk To Remember, however, never once lost my attention. I even had to take the book to work, because I just couldn't bear to sit and wonder for any long period of time. The story is written as if the main character is telling you a story of his most influencial childhood years. It is as if "grandpa" is bringing you down memory lane with him. As I read the book, I could actually hear his voice as he went through the details of both his most joyuous and his most terribly sorrow times of his teenage years. You will start off by classifying the main character as a "typical teenager". He will then become someone you can't help but love. The ending will leave you with something to think about for a long time coming. The moral of the story? Miracles can happen. I recommend this book for the TRULY romantic at heart.
Rating: Summary: Soul Searching Review: Anyway you look at it...it was definitely a sob story. Those with a tender heart and spiritual conscience would love this little book. Easy reading...and enjoyable. Life for teenagers in the last 50's...Wow, wish I could have been there. Jamie's maturity level was so admirable for a girl her age. Girls today are so caught up within themselves. Jamie's brave example of making a Christian stand, regardless of being the preacher's daughter, should be a role model for young people today. (Not being part of the crowd). I think there are more Landon's in the world, too. The thought that Landon so unwillingly allowed Jamie's kindness to overcome him was beautiful. Isn't that how love really is? We want to know everything about that person, and spend every second with that person. Reaching and searching into one another's souls. My eyes teared so much during the last few chapter's that I could hardly see to finishe. But, I couldn't stop. And, only until Landon returned to Jamie's bedside, did I ever suspect the possible ending. I was still hoping to read that Landon would go to school to eventually take Hegbert's position in the community.
Rating: Summary: This one is going to be hard to top! Review: I am not a romance reader. However, I could start getting in to romance novels if they were all written like this. Sparks does an excellent job portraying the life of a terminally ill person. He also develops a plot that allows two high school students to accurately reveal what love is all about. This book will motivate you to find the one that you love and tell her again how much that she means to you. Guys and Gals, you need this book.
