Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written! Review: Sparks is such a great writer...This book is written from the perspective of a 17-year old boy, so the language is simple and to the point...But the message is very clear. The foreword mentions that you will laugh and cry...I sneered at the warning, but I couldn't help it! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story (and I do mean love, not that crap they pass off for love nowadays).
Rating: Summary: Tear Jerker Review: Buy it. Enjoy it. Share it. Sure you know what's going to happen but unless you're reading a mystery, you usually do have an idea of the ending. It's sweet, nostalgic, sentimental and worth a couple of hours of your time. Hope you get as much out of it as I did. Take care.
Rating: Summary: Innocence Review: Sparks is one of my favorite fiction authors and once again he produces a story that can touch a spot in every readers heart. I sat, reading the story and was suddenly back in high school. I can remember the people that were teased, remember my first crush, and the first time I truly fell in love. What makes this such a wonderful story is that as a reader, almost everyone can relate to feeling a love as strong as these two characters, and remorse at its loss.
Rating: Summary: Inconsistent Review: I almost put this book down after the Prologue. It was poorly written, overwrought at times, and it failed to evoke the emotions Spark was trying to evoke. When I got to the meat of the story, I was wondering who had written the Prologue. Spark has a warm, conversational tone in the book that draws the reader in. The story and the characters are interesting, and you grow to care about what happens. When he's not trying to evoke an emotion, Sparks is much more effective. When he's attempting to manipulate the readers' emotions, he fails. The ideas and images are trite and hackneyed. Sparks should let the emotion speak for itself.
Rating: Summary: SHOCKED AT ALL THE POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR THIS BOOK ..... Review: I bought this book with the expectation of it matching the emotional ups and downs, ins and outs of "The Notebook" (an incredible love story that pulls at the heartstrings ... love this book so much!!) ..... IT DIDN'T ...... IT DIDN'T EVEN COME CLOSE .... I didn't get teary eyed a single time!! Its not a "bad" story, and yes, it offers insight to the wisdom of "doing good", but it sure didn't live up to its covers promises. I ended the book feeling like I just read a book my 10 year niece would enjoy. I am left wondering if I should try "Message in a Bottle" .... perhaps from the library .....
Rating: Summary: Sugary Sweet Fun Review: To all of the critics out there, if you want Shakespeare, then read Shakespeare. But if you want to read a touching, fun, heartwarming tearjerker of a novel, then sit back, relax and let yourself get lost in A Walk to Remember. Nicholas Sparks may not be the most literary writer out there, but he touches a woman's heart the way D.M. Roman (the author of Fried Calamari) touches a woman's psyche. With Sparks, you know what you get, and A Walk to Remember does not disappoint.
Rating: Summary: A Tragedy in Life Review: This is not a story with happy-ending. I felt so sad after reading it. Jamie's such a nice girl and I can never understand why such a fate happened to her. Life is always like that? Bad things happen to good guys? A fifty-seven old man telling a story of his past, every detail is still vividly appeared in sight. And in the latter part of the story, I just could not help but cried. I am always amazed by Nicholas Sparks' writings. For those who love this book, I would like to recommend another novel by him called 'The Notebook'.
Rating: Summary: A Tale of Life, Love and the Loss of Inocence Review: A wonderful book, a page turner. Has you laughing and craying all within three chapters. Mr. Sparks is a writer who knows how to touch the emotions dear to our heart. Deffinatly a book I would recomend to anyone who was young and in love.
Rating: Summary: Great Sunday Afternoon Read.... Review: I really enjoyed this book. While not as powerfully emotional as The Notebook, I still feel this was well worth the afternoon it took to read it. I am not normally a romantic at heart, but I love Nicholas Sparks' stories, and look forward to many more. I won't give anything away from the book, but was anyone else left wondering at the end? I gave this book to a couple of my friends to read to see if they thought the same thing as I did. I can't quite decide what the end means. If you were thinking along the same lines as me, let me know! I'd love to see how you interpreted it.
Rating: Summary: Sparks didn't lie (btw don't listen to the other guy) Review: "First you will smile, and then you will cry -- dont' say you haven't been warned." This book does exactly just that. You smile... even laugh sometimes.. and suddenly break into tears... and keep on crying... until the last line... A Walk to Remember makes you contemplate once again what it means to be a human, and what is importatant about being human. The plot maybe simple, but it well serves its purpose. Expect to finish this in a few sittings while saying "not yet, don't end this yet". The bottom line is: If you loved the Notebook, you'll love this one even more; if you didn't love the Notebook, you'll love this one...
