Summary: A book to remember
Review: This book was a gift to me on my 16th birthday. Finally I got around to reading it and finished it in a short time. It is the traditional love story of a bad boy redeemed by the girl he least likely expects to fall in love with. (since the plot is predictable, I'm not giving much away) Here the boy is Landon Carter, son of North Carolina's governor, and the girl is Jamie Sullivan, daughter of a Baptist minister. Although they've known each other all their lives and been in the same classes at school, they are very different from each other. Landon is mischievous and spends time eating boiled peanuts in the local graveyard with his friends. He also finds pleasure in making fun of Jamie's father, among other people. Meanwhile, Jamie is well-known for contributing money and time to orphanages and saving wounded animals. Other teenagers shun her, believing that she's a goody-two shoes. Landon thinks the same way until he gets to know her better. Gradually he realizes that he disliked her before because her own virtuousness made him feel guilty. Influenced by her example, he cleans up his act. He learns that what they have in common is strong enough to draw them together in romantic love. But their near-perfect happiness is too wonderful to last. Jamie is harboring a devastating secret. What is it? And how will it affect their relationship?

Here is a three-word description of the story: sappy, but sweet. Who could fail to be moved by Jamie and Landon's romance? Beaufort, North Carolina in the 1950's provides a nostalgic backdrop for the tale. My favorite scene was when their drama class performed the Christmas play.

However, there were some details that I didn't like about the story. Although Landon changed, he still seemed like a shallow youth. And his 57-year-old man voice was not greatly different from his 17-year-old boy voice. The book read more like young adult fiction than an adult novel. But I will give the author credit for creating a poignant, Christian love story. Unlike most books out on the market today, it contained no immorality and very little coarse language. And Jamie and Landon are truly in love, not just lusting after each other like couples in many novels. The story fulfills its purpose: that is, to arouse our emotions and entertain us.

Overall, don't expect to discover earth-shattering revelations in this book. But if you are a hopeless romantic and don't mind reading a book for pure pleasure every once in a while, "A Walk to Remember" might just be a book you'd enjoy.

Summary: Simply beautiful
Review: Yes, I am a hopeless romantic. Yes, I take great comfort in believing in the power of true love in the world, so if this makes me a sap, then I'm proud of it! I have now read all four of Mr. Sparks' books and have enjoyed them immensely. Will they be considered great literature? Probably not. But they are completely believable and engaging, and appropriate for all readers. They have a wonderful way of transporting you right into the story. You are hooked right from the get go. Yes, they're easy and quick to read, and somewhat predictable, but so what? I've found great life lessons in much less likely places! I know that many will dismiss Mr. Sparks' books as fluff, but I think that any writing that moves so many people in such a positive way is indeed "great literature." Buy this book, and enjoy! (And buy The Notebook and Message in a Bottle also if you haven't read them yet! I also recommend Richard Paul Evans.) :>

Summary: disappointed :-(
Review: so what,I didn't cry. I'm not a heartless person, mind you,I read 'the notebook' and cried alot but this book...well...didn't quite follow up.I think the writer tried too hard to make this book..sad..but it's not! the most emotional scene for me is when Landon and Jamie exchange christmas gifts and that's all.I'm bad at writing review and I don't want to criticize too much, but having the girl died from leukemia at the end of the story, come on! what is this, erich segal's? I have to say this is disappointing. (ok, sorry for criticized too much)

Summary: This book made me laugh AND cry!
Review: I've read "The Notebook" after finding out that the author had also wrote the tearjerking story "Message in a Bottle." I loved "The Notebook" also, and that led me to "A Walk to Remember." This sweet romantic love story is one of my favorite stories of all time. Its light comedy made reading enjoyable and its heartwrenching ending left me bauling (which was real fun)! =)

I truly recommend this book! I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to read "The Rescue" (his new book)!

Summary: A Book to Remember
Review: Being a Nicholas Sparks fan, I wanted to read this book without knowing a thing about it. I devoured this book in one day. What a story of innocence and love! The characters are few, like most Sparks books, but are developed to their fullest potential. I had to keep reminding myself that the main character is only a teenager. Of course, the ending is an emotional, heart wrenching experience. I cried for a good 20 minutes after finishing it! I highly recommend this story to all.

Summary: Not Worth Buying--Borrow Instead
Review: This book reminds me of a story out of a magazine, such as Redbook or Good Housekeeping. The print [in the hardback edition] is very large so as to make the book seem bigger than it actually is. I think it would be a fine read for an eighth grader or maybe someone who wants a quick read while traveling. I would not recommend it for anyone who wants "substance." I definitely would not purchase it. Take it out of the library.

Summary: Grab the tissues
Review: I'm only 14 and this really touched my heart to the max. This book really shows that at any age you can fall in love, no matter how you felt before everything can change and when it does it might be too late. Landon is a little lost boy and finds the way to grow up in the most beautiful way, falling in love. Jamie is so full of joy and did not diserve the rude comments given to her but does not let that stop her from caring for each and every being. I, 100%, give all credit to Nicholas Sparks for the most beautiful story that filled my eyes with tears of joy and sadness. The story will always mean something special. Read and find out what I mean. Don't pass this book.

Summary: Pure Love
Review: I struggle hard to find a good story to read. Too many are filled with vulgarity, immorality - graphically described, and too much violence. This one caught me off guard. It has compassion. It has a very deep morality. It reminded me so much of what I have ahead of me in building the hearts of my children.

Recommend it? You bet!

Not just for those who love romance, but for those who have teens to guide and really enjoy good literature.

Summary: It truly is a story to remember
Review: It may be the title of this novel that catches your eye, but this novel can change the way you look at a person after you read it. This novel teaches the readers very important lesson about life. It is that don't judge people by their appearance, but look for who they are inside. The story is about a young man who fell in love with the kind of a girl he would have never thought he'll fall in love with, and she taught him how to love and the joy and pain of living. This young man's life changed forever and he was able to look at his life in a new perspective. Nicholas Sparks introduces the book by saying, "First you will smile, and then you will cry". A Walk to Remember is sweet story about first true love that can touch your heart, and leave you with tears. This will be a story you might never forget!

Summary: A Walk To Remember
Review: A Walk To Remember is a captivating book. The story is set in a rural South Carolina town in the late 1950's. The main character is a senior in high school, he doesn't want to take an Algebra class and the only class left is Drama, so as fate would have it he ended up in the Drama class. In the time that he is in Drama class he becomes closer to the "class nerd", Jamie Sullivan. Jamie is a sweet innocent character who carries her bible around everywhere she goes. No one knows why she carries it, they consider her a nerd for doing so but after she and Langdon get closer he finds out that it was her mothers. Jamie's dad is the preacher at the church that most of the people in town attend and one year he wrote a play for the seniors to perform and now every year the school selects people who audition to play the parts and they put it on for the town. Langdon wasn't planning on even auditioning but Jamie asks him and he feels like he'd feel so guilty if he didn't do it so he got the lead boy part. Jamie is the girl lead and they play opposite each other. Jamie and Langdon start spending time together to practice for the play and they become good friends. Then the night of the play they get in a little fight (their first fight) and it's awkward for them. There's one line in the play that Langdon has never said with the right emotion and he was afraid he was going to mess up, the line was "You are so beautiful!" he never said it right because he never truly meant it but the night of the play when Jamie walked onto the stage he heard the audience gasps and when he turns around and says the line he really means it. Langdon and Jamie fall in love just like most story book romances but there is one big obstacle in the future. A secret that Jamie and her father have kept from the whole town. This is a secret that alters more than just one life but the lives of most of the town of Beufort, this secret touched everyone who knew Jamie. When Langdon finds out his life is never the same. I would tell you the rest but I'd ruin the book. This was a major tear-jerker and I cried from about the middle to the end.
