Rating: Summary: You Will Remember Review: Written with plenty of local color and slang, this book didn't seem like it would be that good to me at first. It's one of those too-innocent and unrealistic types, but that's probably why I like it. The book is about Landon, a high school senior who ends up in drama class because he doesn't want to take the "difficult" classes like chem, physics or advanced math. To say is taken aback by Jamie's beauty from the beginning is a lie, Jamie is regarded as weird because she does good deeds and reads the Bible during lunch. Jamie and Landon end up with starring roles in the senior play, Landon wants to be nice to Jamie because he owes her a favor, but is worried about preserving his reputation. Being seen with nice people is too unpopular. One begins to wonder about Jamie when she starts talking about her goals in life. She says all she wants is to get married. At the time, it seems like a silly goal, but she's with holding a secret that changes everything. It's easy reading, but does the job nicelt. It's a book you'll remember for a long time, inspirational, sad, and beautiful.
Rating: Summary: Cornography Review: I tend, in general, to be critical of tearjerker novels; the only ones I can read without groaning are Richard Paul Evans', because they are both better written and more heartfelt. This book is one of the rare instances where the movie is better than its source material; I watched the movie and was charmed, I read the book and was repulsed. The basic plotline is a sort of first-love, tearjerker "boy meets girl": in the 1950s, shallow Landon Carter is your average teen boy, hangs out with friends, and tries to handle impending adulthood and dismal grades. Except then he ends up having to spend time around the town goody-two-shoes, Jamie Sullivan, who wants to be a GOOD Christian and a GOOD daughter. (That would be enough to scare most teenage boys I know into bomb shelters) Unsurprisingly, Landon is won over by Jamie's sugary goodness in very little time, and sees past her dorky exterior to the incredible soul within. (Is my sarcasm too obvious?) But Sparks can't jerk our tear ducts into action without sorrow, so of course Jamie has a Sad Secret, that is the emotional hinge of the book. When reading certain bad genre books, you can sometimes feel like the author is ticking off items on a checklist -- in hack fantasy, it's "elves, check; dwarves, check; gray wizard, check; magic sword, check; Dark Lord, check..." and so on. This is one of those books, except instead of Tolkienian elements, we have diseases and angels and young love and utter goodness. Sparks seems to be cluttering up what COULD have been a competant storyline with every preachy cliche or tearjerker plot element that can be dredged from a thousand weepy novels. One thing you will rarely hear spoken about concerning Sparks' books is his writing. This is because it is terrible, simply terrible. It meanders along at a moderate pace, never speeding up or slowing down as the plot demands. The dialogue is hokey, and the overall tone of it is just, well, boring. Sparks has such a dull narrative style that I had trouble not putting the book down The characters are walking cliches. It's not enough that Jamie be sweet and kind -- she has to be angelic in her utter goodness, a minister's daughter, and determined to be the best daughter and Christian possible. So we can't possibly think she is in any way like the shallower, prettier girls who aren't as angelic as she, Sparks is careful to make her dowdy as well. (What, you can't be sweet and kind and look halfway good?) She's so good and sweet and angelic that it's impossible to like or sympathize with her. Landon himself is as boring as his narrative style; he has no pizzazz or individual elements. He essentially exists to tell the story and fall in love with Jamie. The supporting characters are just bland. This book is the worst example of "cornography." Watch the movie, if you want to know the story. If you want a tearjerker, read Richard Paul Evans; if you want a teen-first-love tearjerker, try Lurlene McDaniel's many books. This is a walk to forget.
Rating: Summary: Martin's "Walk To Remember," View Review: I had heard of this book, I rented the book on tape. Nicholas Sparks reads it. My view of this. I am not into sad, romance books but this book is sad. It's about Jamie who struggles meets Landon and teaches him new things. I would reccomend this great book and it will change you. I recently rented the DVD and Nicholas Sparks did a good job doing the commentary. I would suggest you read the book first!
Rating: Summary: Losing a Loved One Review: The book, A Walk to Remember, is probably one of the best books I have ever read. I heard great things about the book and the movie, so when I got a chance to read the book for my English class, I jumped at the chance. The book was so easy to follow and it seemed as though the reader was pulled into the storyline. I never once was confused on anything that was talked about and I emotionally felt the same as the characters did in some of their situations. The book was so real life and it was very easy to relate to. Also, I lost a loved one to Leukemia, so it was easy to understand what Landon and everyone else was going through. My mother died of Leukemia 2 years ago and it was the hardest time of my life. I absolutely understood how emotionally draining it can be and all the characters of this book showed what I felt also. Although Landon lost his girlfriend/wife and I lost my mother, the feelings are still mutual. It doesn't matter who you lose, it hurts all the same. This book is also good because everything the characters went through is so real. It is absolutely possible to go through everything the characters were put through. I without a doubt recommend this book to everyone, guys included. I especially think those who have lost a loved one should read this book because the storyline is so real and it makes absolute sense.
Rating: Summary: MiMi's Review Review: I read the book "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks. The book was about a not so popular girl named Jamie Sullivan, and Landon Carter, who was a popular boy. Jamie's father was a preacher at the church in town and was protective of his daughter. Through out the book Landon begins to fall in love with Jamie, but I wont tell you more so you can read it for yourself. I really liked this book because Landon and Jamie came from two different lives and backgrounds to fall in love with each other. Nicholas Sparks pulled you into the book so that you never want to put it down. This book is also very easy reading. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a love story and to cry.
Rating: Summary: Good story -- not an exciting read... Review: Although the story is crafted quited well, I did not find the book an exciting read. The book flew by quite fast since the book is easily read and not of great length. The story is quite riveting but just doesn't have the 'oopmh' to keep me on the edge, old fashion love stories just dont keep my occupied as well as other genres could. But, like I said, the story is good. It is worth the time spent if you are in the mood for a small love story which does not get crowded by small trivial trials and tribulations. It's concise and direct, making it simple and managable.
Rating: Summary: A Book to Remember Review: This book was a great book, especially for young teenagers. The book starts off with Landon Carter having a flashback of his high school days. He tells of his senior year and how he was changed forever by one girl. A girl who he never thought could ever change him. Jamie Sullivan was the town pastor's daughter who was very religious and kept to herself. She carried her bible around all the time even at school. The kids at school made fun of Jamie because of how diferent she was from them. She helped an orphanage and even when others made fun of her she was nice right back to them because that was how she was brought up. Landon ends up going to the homecoming dance with her because she was the only one left; he does a play with her where he sees the true Jamie. He starts to have more than just 'friend' feelings but tries to hide them so he will not get made fun of too. The book makes you feel happy and sad at the same time. Jamie and Landon over their senior year grow together and fall in love and its qutie beautiful. I would recommend this to young teens, especially girls, because it teaches you the heartaches of life and love.
Rating: Summary: A WALK TO REMEMBER Review: Knowing that an outcast and a Jock usually doesn't mix, Landon and Jamie fell in love. In the book A WALK TO REMEMBER, Nicholas Sparks, inspires the reader to focus on the love of a teenage couple. It shows the reader how appearance doesn't mean as much, when you feel safe in your lover's arms. Landon and Jamie never knew that romance could come to them. When they realize that they ware in love, everything around them starts to change. Not only the two couple social life changes, but, also there family. Love is hard to find, but when you finally receive it, keep it, before it vanishes in a blank of an eye. Usually I wouldn't just pick up a book, open it, and read it. But the cover of the couple holding hands caught my eye. As I read this book, I realize that people go through harsh things in life, when they don't even deserve it. Because of Jamie's life style, of being an outcast, people looked down on her like she wasn't a person. When Landon finally saw passed her ragged clothes, and ponytail, he realize that the key to his heart was the minister daughter, Jamie. It also made me feel that if love could be so wonderful and powerful, I deeply want to feel how Landon felt. It's easy to fall in love, but the hardest part is telling your parents about that person, especially when your dad hates him or her. Jamie was in that tight spot. One of the conflict in this story was between Landon and Jamie's father. Landon was the neighborhood trouble maker. Jamie's father was a minister, therefore she wants someone decent who can take care of her. When Jamie introduces Landon to her dad, he doesn't approve. He didn't give Landon a chance to explain himself. It was hard for Jamie to go places with Landon, with her father always forbidding it. Weeks pass, and Jamie's father saw another side to Landon. He trusted him with his daughter, and later approved of Landon. One of the life lessons in this book is judging people from the outside, rather taking a look in the inside. Before you judge someone, or criticized them on how they look, you never know they aren't what you think they are. In order to succeed, you have to meet new people and except them for who they are. as a person. When you do something to someone, it backfires and comes right back to you. So watch before you do or say something, because you don't want anything bad to happen to you. After reading this book, it made me think how life goes. Life is like a fairy tale. Some people live happily ever after, others end trajectly and some can even be unfinished.. Landon and Jamie spend the best years of their lives together. Landon is left with a broken heart and a unfinished love life. Life doesn't last forever, so cherish it as best as you can before everything vanishes in a blink of an eye.
Rating: Summary: A story not soon forgotten Review: I reccomend this book to anyone who has ever loved someone else. Honestly, I thought it was a little too predictable, and in some ways it seemed like just another love story. However, it is one of the very few love stories that really touched my heart. It makes you more aware of how people treat each other, and, therefore, makes you take a closer look at yourself. Though short in length, this book contains numerous lessons to be learned, and ideas worth taking into consideration.
Rating: Summary: Mallory Remembers the Walk Review: I would recommend this book to anyone. It was very inspirational and made you think twice about the way you look at life. In the book, Jamie Sullivan is going though many struggles, but handles them amazingly well. Anyone can learn a lot from this book. It is very touching and there is never a dull moment. During this book you will laugh and you will cry as you follow Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan through a very eventful year. You will be missing out if you don't read this book.
