Rating: Summary: Very Good Read Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Having read all of Nicholas Sparks' books, I have not been disappointed yet. The Guardian does not top "The Notebook" which was and still is, in my opinion, the best he has ever written. But it held my interest and was hard to put down. The idea of the dog touched my heart because I have my own large dog that has been my constant companion for ten years. I completely understood the relationship between dog and owner. The story is very believeable and realistic. I give any book that touches my emotions as this one did a great score. Job well done.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: Many of Sparks novels have romance. This was love and danger. I liked this novel. I do agree it's different from what he writes. It kept me at the edge of my seat. It does have a tragic ending, sad also. Richard was a scary character I hope they offer this to hollywood. Would make a great movie. I will review The Wedding on September 9! Read this book full of love, danger, & suspance!
Rating: Summary: Good but not Sparks-great Review: As a fan of Nicholas Sparks I was eager to read this book. I enjoyed the read, but the story line was predictable. The ending was unexpected though. I love Sparks's books and this is no exception. It wasn't the best he's written, but I'm glad I read it. I always enjoy his characters and the settings he creates. The author's note states that Sparks is trying this new type of story - I think it is good first try. Keep 'em coming!!
Rating: Summary: The Guardian - Pick Up The Pace Review: I was searching for an easy end-of-the summer read when I selected 'The Guardian'. The promise of romance and action drew me in. The introduction of a tiny ugly puppy clinched this book for my selection. The initial appeal quickly waned and I found myself slogging through most of the predictable story line, excessively simple dialogue and repetitious character descriptions. The heroine and the hero were likeable enough. I enjoyed how their relationship progressed. However, I grew tired of waiting for the hero to ask the heroine out on a date. At first, his reluctance to ask for a date was cute. As time dragged on, his nervous hesitation became annoying and when he never gained his courage, he appeared desperately insecure. One character was repeatedly described as a useless simpleton. One description was enough. I am a reader that likes to draw her own conclusions based on a character's words and actions. I was surprised to discover 'The Guardian' himself, in a secondary role. From the title alone, I expected much more. The pace of this book picks up at the end. The suspense builds as the creepy villain stalks his victims. Unfortunately, the ending is predictable. The author mentions wanting to write a story that balances romance and suspense. I think the author accomplishes that balance. Overall though, I prefer a more in-depth read.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed in Amazon Review: I find it disappointing that Amazon censors reviews . I left a review about the Guardian, as a citizen of the town in which the setting takes place, Swansboro, N.C. From the point of view of someone who lives here, I wanted to explain how far a field Sparks comes to any semblance of reality. Of course we know that the story is concocted but why name the town something authentic ,if you say nothing true about the place. He could have named it "Booville" for that matter. However, Amazon does not deal in reality,so I won't bother to leave another review for them to take off.
Rating: Summary: On the Edge of my Seat Good!!!!!!!!!! Review: I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. Though VERY predictable, it is still a GREAT read. I haven't read a suspense/thriller type book in a long time and I was actually sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to be able to read faster. I didn't find it slow in the beginning at all. Some parts in the middle were a little slow but not enough for me to be bothered. If I wasn't at work, I would have been crying at the ending, but luckily I was, and luckily I didn't get fired for reading on the job!!!!!!! It's a GREAT book!
Rating: Summary: The Guardian Review: It's a sweet love story with a suspense/thriller on the side that gives an exciting edge to the story and makes the reader want to know more. I am a sap for love and stories that make me cry and I did when the dog dies at the end because the dog is such a part of Julie it's sad to see him go and I cried. I think people should definitely read this book. If you're into thriller read it and if you're in it for love read it for the happy ending.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have read! Review: The Guardian is one of the best books I have read! I have to admit that I usually don't read suspense books. Actually I rarely stray from romance. However, Nicholas Sparks did an excellent job of combining romance with suspense. This book is somewhat predictable, but entertaining none the less. The Guradian is about a 29 year old widow who is left with a puppy and a promise that her husband will always watch over her. When she starts to date again, she has to choose between two great guys. Richard is the new guy in town that treats her like a queen and Mike is the best friend of her and her late husband. When you think that everything is ok Julie (the widow) realizes that she is being stalked. Will Julie live happily ever after or will her stalker get the best of her?
Rating: Summary: nothing surprising Review: I finished "The Guardian" just today, and this is my review: The first half is long, for you expect what't to happen. I haven't read another book from Sparks, but to me it seems like it's been written by a woman for the way he expresses the characters' feelings and how he tries to unfold every day-to-day thing. It feels like he tries to make a big deal out of what we would consider a casual thought, it kind of gets a little boring at the beginning, but I have to admit that almost at the end it quite got my attention - just when the action takes place. However it striked me as one of those books where it really happens what you expect to happen, all the time. I think it's an o.k. book but I wouldn't read it again. Just an entertaining book.
Rating: Summary: Something different form Sparks Review: This is a very good book. Suspenseful and romantic.
