Rating: Summary: new to Sparks Review: This is the first Nicholas Sparks book I have ever read. It was GREAT! I read it in two days and that is highly unusual for me. I am going to purchase more of his books.
Rating: Summary: Something always lacking Review: I have read nearly all of Nicholas Sparks' books, and yet I still wonder why. I guess I am amazed at the popularity of this simple, unexciting style of writing. His plot ideas may have some merit, but his execution is on the level of juvenile literature. I truly want him to succeed, because there is little to choose from that is not filled with graphic violence, foul language, and sex. But I wish there were more substance to his writing, more imagination. The Guardian is filled with every cliche known, truly amazing in this day and age. On the positive side, it does make me consider a writing career... :)
Rating: Summary: A love story and chilling thriller ! Review: This book will keep you a wake at night! If not because you are staying up too late to read it, or because it has you looking over your shoulder! Every womans worst nightmare is being played out in vivd detail. Julies ex-boyfriend is stalking her after she breaks up with him and starts dating a new man. The novel is also a touching love story as Sparks is known around the world for, but he has let the thriller story teller in him out and look out ladies! Lock your doors and windows and get ready for one heck of a ride. Guys don't try this at home PLEASE !!!!
Rating: Summary: Slooooooooow starter Review: With the exception of "A Walk to Remember", I have read each and every one of Nicholas Sparks's books. Like most readers, I thoroughly enjoyed "The Notebook" and especially, my personal favorite, "Message in a Bottle." "Nights in Rodanthe" was terrible and enough to make me never want to read him again, however, I heard about "The Guardian" and wanted to give it a chance. Let's just say it took a long time to get into the book. Sparks's writing style is extremely boring containing very simple language. If you want an author who is easy to read and whose writing is not too filled with substance, then he is yours! I prefer a book with good use of language and vocabulary, good flow, substance - just a good book! Sparks's novels, in my opinion, are just too amateur. Anyway, once I got into the book after wanting to quit several times, it actually got good with the suspense. This is not typical of Sparks and I did finally start enjoying it. Yes, it did take that same 'ole predictable stance, however, I still caught myself getting into it and wanting to know what was going to happen next! If you've already got a stack of good books awaiting you, by all means don't read "The Guardian" now. If you are bored and want something to read, then do read this one, just know it will get better!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Spark's Book Review: I'm one of those people who always reads the ending first to determine if I'm going to like a book or not. When The Guardian first came out I did this and just was not at all impressed. But I've read all his other books and just recently decided to go ahead and read it anyways. And I was so impressed! I just loved this book. It's my favorite one he's written so far. One the one hand if you've read alot of suspense or romance novels you can pretty much see what's going to happen within the first hundred pages (this one is almost 400 pages, and that's really long for Sparks). But the way the relationships develop in this book is really special. It was a sweet and touching story.
Rating: Summary: Not so hot! Review: I saw Mr Sparks [speak] where he explained that when he first wrote this novel he thought it was "the cats meow" then received a 19 page editotial review from his editor. I'm wondering who got it wrong on this one, the writer or the editor, maybe the book was better before the revisions. It's very predictable, the dialogue is not believable and there's way too much repetition on female intuition and the old "geez that sounds familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it". It's a good beach read, but no great literary work.
Rating: Summary: His best in a while Review: I very much enjoyed the book. His two previous books weren't much of a tear-jerker. This book though, made me realize that no matter what happens in life and however sad things get, time will heal your pain and you will always have someone watching over you. I thought it to be a beautiful story about finding love a second time around and a great story of the relationship between people and their pets. Love them and they will love you in return. This book is worth the read.
Rating: Summary: B-O-R-I-N-G Review: Okay, so Sparks' other books haven't exactly been literary masterpieces either, but at least they pulled at your heartstrings and made you feel so sort of emotional connection to the characters. Not so in this book. This qualifies as one of the worst books of the year imo, and it was really hard to care about any of these characters or the storyline in general. The book was extremely predictable, unemotional, and simple (in terms of writing, plot, character development, etc.). It is a real waste of time, but based on Sparks' name alone this book will unfortunately be heralded by many without more discerning tastes in reading material.
Rating: Summary: Better Then The Last One ~ Review: I loved this book it was better then the last one I didn't enjoy "Nights In Rodanthe" I couldn't wait for his next book!! I highly recommed it Great Read!! Julie Barenson's her husband Jim Dies and 4 years later she is ready to date again she starts to see these two guys and she picks one the other is not to happy, let me just say the one she does pick I just love. I must warn you the ending you will need a box tissue. I hoep you enjoy it has much as I did. Happy Reading Lisa
Rating: Summary: Amazing and gripping Review: I have read several Nicholas Sparks books because they are so romantic and make me feel so good inside. This book certainly was no exception. The romance can be felt by the reader so much. You feel like you're actually part of the story. Nicholas Sparks added a hint of thriller in this book and I was hesitant at first. But the thriller was terrific. While parts may have been obvious to the reader, I couldn't put this book down. I look forward to his next book.
