Rating: Summary: A touching romance novel Review: The first book I've read by this author, so I can't offer an opinion on how this one stacks up against previous works of his. But "The Wedding" deals with a very real concept: A middle-aged man, Wilson Lewis, realizes that being a good provider but putting his career ahead of his wife and kids has short-changed his marriage, and he's compelled to do something about it before it's too late. What ultimately helps him turn the corner is the sudden marriage of his oldest daughter--it's an opportunity for husband to reach out to wife again. This book is set in North Carolina, and Sparks really delivers with his prose--he writes almost as fluidly and evocatively as other great southern authors like Pat Conroy and Willie Morris. The characters, while believable, are not quite as involving, although "Noah" (Wilson's elderly father in law who's in failing health) rings true in his wisdom and his heartache at the loss of his wife a number of years ago. And although this is a brief book which can be read cover to cover in 3-4 hours, there's occasional unnecessary detail and somewhat trite dialogue. But those are minor complaints--this is definitely a high-end romance novel.
Rating: Summary: Can a man change? Review: I picked up this book on a whim after seeing it on a coworkers desk. I've read Nicholas Sparks before and found his books the best of the modern day romance novels. This is one book you will not want to put down. It was so good I had to read it twice. The process by which one man changes unfolds as you delve further into the book and over the course of 1 year he has become a new man. Wilson is a workaholic who has learned his wife is unhappy with their marriage. Upon learning this he decides to change himself and in the process realizes how much he loves his wife, Jane. A very poignant page turner.
Rating: Summary: The Wedding Review: The book arrived in excellent condition. NEW as advertised. Book arrived before Christmas.
Rating: Summary: A Great First Experience With Nicholas Sparks Review: I enjoyed "The Wedding" very much. It was very sweet, very sad. Sad not in the way you might think. Sad as in time is passing and it's sad because you can't change past mistakes. Just ordinary things that pass every day in your life, but it's sad because you don't treasure it, because you look back and you wish you had. "The Wedding" is about a man who realizes that after 30 years of marriage, his wife might not love him anymore. He recounts all of his mistakes, including the day when he forgot their 29th anniversary. So, as he prepares the ultimate present, he tries to change himself, to go past the barrier he has set himself. (He is a man of routine and uncomfortable with sentimentalities.) Also, more things are happening and changing around him. This "unsentimental" man struggles to express his unexpressable love for his "swan" (you'll understand if you read) and also keeps a great secret from her and the reader, who will find the most delightful surprise at the end of this story. Please read this if you ever have the time. If you see it in the library, give it a try or ask to borrow it if you ever find it on a friend's bookshelf. I promise your time won't be wasted. There's no great excitement, no danger, no fantastical journey to save the world. It's just a man, you know, who asks his wife, "If you had to do it all over-and knowing how everything would turn out with us-would you marry me again?" When you get to the end, you feel all happy and peaceful because you know that there is always hope.
Rating: Summary: Sequels usually miss the mark, but this one is truly awesome Review: I didn't think it was possible, but 'The Wedding' is just as sensational as 'The Notebook'. I sighed, I cried...I want to read it again already (and I just finished reading it). This book is a must read! I highly recommend it, but do yourself a favor and read 'The Notebook' first. I guarantee that you will be just as enchanted by Noah, Allie, Jane and Wilson as I was.
Rating: Summary: Romantic and Sappy...... Review: This is the first book I have read by Nicholas Sparks. It is about a couple that falls out of love later in theie life, and how the husband struggles to rebuild their relationship. I beleive this is a worthy effort by the author. Wilson the husband is a career driven man who thinks the way to please his family is to make lots of money and in the process ends up ignoring his family's emotional needs. He is particlarly a bad husband to his wife Jane. Throughout the story he is trying to rekindle their passion for each other and make up for his shortcomings. I certain ways the story is enduring and sweet. In other ways in reminds me of a soap opera being played oput in book form. I did enjoy the family dynamics and was very taken in by the love story between Jane's father and passed away mother. It was only mentioned here and there in the book but it was riviting. I think I would have actually liked to hear more about their love story than what was going on between Wilson and his wife. I think if you like novels that are along the lines of a better written Daniel Steele Romance this is the one for you. The ending is too predictble and things go along way too smopothy throughout the book. Life is not a romantic fantasy waiting to happen and I don't beleive the people can change that fast from being non-emotional to suddenly romantic.
Rating: Summary: Loved this story! Review: As Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors, I may be biased, but I LOVED this book. It made me cry, but in a good way and I was completely touched with the ending, not having seen it coming.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: It was a happy story that made me smile. Some parts were a little bit slow, but none the less, it was a very moving story.
Rating: Summary: Lost Magic Review: This book is dull, I am not sure how else to put it. If you want to know every detail involved in planning a wedding then by all means read it. But if you are reading it hoping for the Magic of Allie and Noah, forget it! I suggest you read The Notebook again or Shade of the Maple by Kirk Martin, those books have the Magic we are all looking for.
Rating: Summary: comment on another review Review: Luckily I had already read the book before I read the review by Ashley that gave away the twist to the novel. I don't think you should print any reviews that give away such details as it really spoils it for those who haven't yet read it. This was one of the best books I have read in quite a while. And I must say, I enjoyed being surprised at the end! Please, let others enjoy it also, and remove Ashley's review.
