Rating: Summary: Not for me Review: As part of the adoption triad, I was hoping for a book with 'meat', and instead found a very predictable book with foul language that had no reason to be in it. Prude? Maybe, but I do not enjoy it when it is there solely for 'show'....and it certainly had nothing to add to the story. I HAD been going to gift my adult daughters with the book, as one has searched and met her bmother and family, and the other has met a bsister...but, I can tell you that it is NOT worth buying more IMHO.
Rating: Summary: lessons run deep Review: Disturbing the Peace is a novel about a search--for a birth mother, but ultimately for direction and meaning in a precarious world. The novel engages us with wit and charming dialogue, but its lessons run deep. I couldn't put this down. Both novel and protagonist are winners--full of sympathy, energy, and wisdom.
Rating: Summary: It was just OKAY Review: Disturbing the Peace is about Sarah, a smart, talented and funny teacher who is less than satisfied with her life. She has a career that she loves and a man she's like to get to get to know better but she needs to put the past behind her and the only way she can do this is by meeting the birth mother who gave her up for adoption. And so begins the story....I found this book just okay. It's a quick read and entertaining with the main character (Sarah) being very likeable BUT I think the reason this book fell short is becuase it tried to take a complicated subject matter and turn it into a "feel good" fiction story.
Rating: Summary: choices are difficult Review: I have a friend that had been searching for her birth mother. The questions that go through the character's mind, as well as, my friend's were similar. Who am I really? Nancy Newman - this is a great beginning to what I hope is a long career in writing.
Rating: Summary: Touching and funny book Review: I loved this book! It was so much fun to read, and touched on so many subjects that I, as an English teacher and as a single woman, am interested in. It managed to express what an adoptee feels like, and also made it clear that you can get what you want if you face problems in your life. I really recommend it to anyone who loves to read.
Rating: Summary: This novel really gets it right! Review: I loved this novel because it really depicts what it feels like to search for a birth mother and doesn't over sweeten the main character's reunion with her mother. I also enjoyed the humor and sometimes laughed out loud. I like the point it makes about taking care of problems in your background in order to make your life better. I've bought 3 copies for friends and believe that everyone who is thinking about searching or has searched for a birth parent would really enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: I Couldn't Put It Down Review: I usually don't finish books but this one grabbed me because I HAD to find out what happened to the character Sarah. I really felt like I knew her because she shared so many experiences I had when I searched for my birth mother. I found myself cheering for her right until the last page of the book. She had courage and a great sense of humor. Also, she made so many clever observations about people along the way that in spite of the serious subject, the book was very often funny. I can't wait to read more by Nancy Newman.
Rating: Summary: Light Reading Review: If you are looking for a serious book about a daughters search for her biological mother, this isn't it. This is a very light book, fun, keeps the pages turning, but still pretty predictable. I liked the book. It's kind of a modern romance. It's fun to read something light like this once in a while in between more serious books like we were the mulvaneys or cane river (both on Oprah's list & awesome books). I'm not sure what the one reviewer was talking about when she said there was a lot of profanity...I found close to none.
Rating: Summary: Not Quite Peaceful..... Review: If you're looking for a bumpy ride, then this is the book for you. From beginning to end, there isn't an ounce a peace within these pages. More like lots of turmoil. I really enjoyed this book but have to say that it's not what I expected. It's not a comforting (or even touching) story about a daughter in search of her mother. It's more like a woman who has a storm brewing inside and she thinks that finding her mother will solve all of her other problems. Let me tell you ~ she has LOTS of other problems! The book touched more on her *other issues*, more so, than the fact that she was adopted. I found most of the characters to be dark and the kind that are simply hard to get along with. Even though the book was a whirlwind of sadness, anger and longing; Nancy Newman did an outstanding job of touching on the thoughts and feelings that must go through the minds and hearts of anyone that has been adopted and feels an empty whole within.
Rating: Summary: Light Reading Review: sara's romance with that mysterious inventor made me jealous! I couldn't put this book down. Couldn't help rooting for her on her quest. Recommended especialy to those who have a tough time saying "no" to people when they need help.
