Rating: Summary: Rambling and long winded Review: The author jumps right in with characters that are colorful but at the same time made it confusing to keep track of them all. I found the descriptions of her upbringing and home life very insightful. I was hoping to learn more about the disease that her daughter was afflicted with yet not much detail was given at all. This book might have held my interest more if the author had thought to break some of her writing into paragraphs. I found myself thinking that I was reading one long sentence after a while.
Rating: Summary: A truly magnificent raconteur! Review: I felt gripped on a joint-journey with Isabelle as she recounts her marvellous life with sagacity imbued with humour, nostalgia and tragedy. Her story resonates in all of us, it is our story because ultimately "we are all on the road to Death".
Rating: Summary: An incredible work of courage. Review: An incredible work of courage. Whilst reading Ms. Allende's lines, it was difficult to fathom that these words were being addressed to her dying Paula and to the reader as well. An intimate connection is made with the reader. Ms. Allende's hope and pain became my hope and pain. A strong and sad force created this story.
Rating: Summary: Excelente and completely inspirator Review: This book is one of the best in all categories, I hope that everyone that had or will read it find what I found. You learn a lot, but I can't say in words and less in English that is not my language, but is like a pleasure you should give when you return from job and daily life.
Rating: Summary: Excelente!!!

Rating: Summary: touching and brilliantly written journey of self-discovery Review: I read this book in most amazement at the magnificant discription of a life filled with trials and happiness. It really is an intimate account of her life which she has so graciousley put into words. It not only gives an insight into Isabel Allende's life but of a whole generation, a country and a woman's world. It really is a must read for all those looking to put the pieces of a puzzle together, and for those who can amire a beautfiully composed book.
Rating: Summary: Sincerely touched by "Paula." Review: I have always been a big fan of Isabel Allende (her books, not her politics). I read "Paula" during my vacation this summer, and enjoyed it a great deal. Days after reading this book, I couldn't get the story out of my head. I highly recommend this book. Isabel Allende touched me with specifics about her life in ways, I cannot express in words. She is a true literary worthy.
Rating: Summary: An Amazingly Personal Autobiography Review: In what begins as a letter to her dying daughter, Isabel Allende crafts what must be one of the most intimate, personal autobiographies ever written. I feel like I know Ms. Allende, and I grieved along with her as her daughter finally died, unable to emerge from her coma. This is more than just a book -- it's an introduction to a family, an author, and a hope for the future.
