Summary: Disappointing Read
Review: My mother gave me this book to read and like many other people who've reviewed this book, the backcover is what peaked my interest. Unfortunately, Charles character (who obvious is an alcoholic and should be going to a meeting instead of writing love letters. Both characters are seemed shallow and never seemed to grow. I was stunned by Sian's behavior in that she actually agreed to meet Charles instead of running quickly in the other direction. The ending was horrible and unimaginative. The only justice I found was for Harriet. Charles probably had a HUGE life insurance plan. She and her 3 kids can now keep the house!

Summary: Mediocore
Review: The book had good potential and the storyline was strong but Anita didnt come through.. The characters were unrealistic and had no depth. Ms Shrive seems to also have a problem with endings.. because i have the same complaint i had with "The Pilot's Wife", With "when or where" it seems as though her deadline was the next day so she just through something together to finish it up.. the ending was severely disappointing! A quick read.. but if you can find something better...DO!

Summary: Where or When- parable or paradox?
Review: Anita Shreve writes descriptively, dissecting the thoughts and actions of her characters with precision. An impatient reader may not appreciate this means to an end, but Shreve ultimately creates fallible characters that evoke from the reader both sympathy and ire. The result is a satisfying read that leaves the reader wondering: was this parable or paradox? My opinion--a bit of both.

Summary: Extremely Disappointing
Review: After reading the premise of this book I was excited to read about the magic of rediscovering a long lost lover. I was disappointed to find that this book wasn't about love at all, but about two boring, weak characters whose only basis for a relationship was a week spent together at the age of 14. The ending made me wish I had never even picked up the book. It was as if Anita lost interest in the story herself and chose a quick unimaginative ending so she could finally put this failure to rest. Excellent idea, horrible story.

Summary: Ugh.....
Review: I was so disappointed in this book. I expected a book that might actually depict the emotions of rediscovering a long-lost love, and was rewarded with a book that reminded me of romance-novel trash. The ending was incredibly trite and unimaginative. I'd give it 0 stars if I could.

Summary: LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN
Review: I wrote a very long review of this book a few days ago, but when it appeared on Amazon it was cut off abruptly in just a few sentences. *No wonder* the one person who read the review said that they didn't find it helpful!

I don't have the energy to write the whole review again. Suffice to say that I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it.

Summary: A book I couldn't put down
Review: This is the second book from Anita Shreve that I have read and I loved it. I fell in love with both characters and was always wondering what was going to happen next. I would consider this a romance-suspense novel.

Summary: TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Review: I am in the midst of an Anita Shreve "festival". That is, Ihave, in a short space of time, read Fortune's Rocks, The Pilot'sWife, The Weight of Water, Eden Close, and now Where or When. I think I'll stop for awhile now, but I have enjoyed the journey, for the most part. (I really enjoyed Fortune's Rocks and the Weight of Water. Didn't care for The Pilot's Wife or the bizarre Eden Close.)

I found Where or When to be captivating at times.... END

Summary: a disappointment
Review: I picked this up after reading "Fortune's Rocks" a few months ago. The premise sounded appealing -- what married, mother-of-two wouldn't like to live vicariously (through reading a novel) a lustful reunion with her first love? Shreve writes sexual/emotional passion pretty well, but the plot was very disappointing. For a while, the main characters are interesting and compelling, and we want them to be together, but the slapped-on ending cheapens -- or exposes -- their entire relationship. It leaves one with a sense of being duped: what you'd thought could be a touching love story seems in the light of day to be nothing more than a story of two bored, cowardly people. Was it really each other that they so desperately craved, or simply a way out of their tedious lives and loveless marriages? This is not a love story if you are someone who's ever loved.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not the best Shreve book, but still great!
Review: This is just another example of Anita Shreve's fine writing. I find the commonality in her books to be slow starting, pulling the reader in, and then there is no way you can put it down! I've enjoyed every one of her books and can't wait for another one to hit the market!
