Summary: Sorry I wasted my time
Review: Story starts out interesting and then goes downhill from there when ghosts start appearing and her elderly god parents decide to train K-9 dogs. The shrink sessions are pretty good though.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I could hardly wait for the book to be published after reading the first chapter on line. However, I think this was my first and only disappointed reading from Fern Michaels. It had all the substance to be great but just mellowed out toward the end. I expected the "criminals" to put up a much bigger fight instead of just buckling in the end. Had this book been the first one I had read of Fern Michaels' books, I don't think I would have been impressed enough to read more. Nonetheless, she remains one of my favorite authors and everyone is entitled to a "bummer" once in a while.

Summary: Plain Jane
Review: Don't waste a perfectly good summer day reading this one. It's "for the dogs", literally. Between the huggy/kissy dog stuff, and the haunted houses and ghosts, this book insults the intelligence of anyone.

Summary: Very Good - But Not Great
Review: This book is 90% of the way to being excellent; as others have described, it has great characterizations and a good plot. I especially like how well-developed the secondary characters are -- the mystery writers, the ghosts, and the dogs are worth reading about all by themselves, which is not to slight the ugly-duckling-turned swan heroine and her supportive beau.

However, I have a few quibbles (and these are minor compared to the author's aformentioned accomplishments). The first is that there seemed to me to be a little too much "tough love" from some of the characters and not quite as much compassion as I would have expected from them. The second is that the conclusion falls short -- it simply isn't dramatic enough, given the circumstances. I did not expect the rapists to submit meekly as they did; it seemed totally out of character for them to do so, and the confrontation, while clever, lacked dramatic impact.

These are minor objections. This is a very good book and well worth the time to read.

Summary: Started off with a bang!
Review: A first time reader of this author, I was highly pleased with the interesting, well-written opening, however, things went rapidly down-hill. Jane was a total contridiction. Either she is ugly and mousy, or confident and beautiful. The ghost scenes were great, but the the interaction between Jane and her mom left a lot to be desired. There should have been more suspense, I kept expecting the rapists to go after Jane, but that storyline just faded away. I am all for happy endings, but appreciate the characters working harder to achieve it!

Summary: Not Recommended
Review: This was the first book I have read by this author and was extremely disappointed. The dialogue did not sound real and the story was not very interesting. Even though there were several things going on, they weren't real exciting and I couldn't bring myself to care about the story or the characters. I couldn't even imagine some of the scenarios or conversations ever taking place. It was with difficulty that I stuck it out to the end.

Summary: Did not like
Review: This was not a good book. Jane as a character was flat. Mike was pretty much a nobody - didn't know what he had to fall in love with - unless it was intended that his loving an ugly woman was enough. The dogs were center stage and since I'm not a dog fan, I found them irritating. The godparents had their moments, but only a few. The confrontation scene at the end was ridiculous - wouldn't men who did such terrible things (and gotten away with them) be just a little bit smarter? The character Bill was pure evil at the beginning and good at the end without adequate reasons for the change. When he first appeared I thought he might be taunting Jane with her past, but it was explained in the end it was "accidental" that he picked her for a therapist.

I thought Jane came across as loud, bossy, rude and frankly, pretty dumb. Her speeches in the book that she just had enough energy to think "of me" were a turn off. Trixie's rant at Mike that only poor Jane mattered was mean, and I was extremely disappointed that Mike didn't flip HER the bird and cut his losses. Maybe Trixie was supposed to come across as "tough", but yikes - she was overly hostile. This was the first book/romance I have read where I actually wanted the hero to take off. Why would he want to hang around after Jane and her "family" stated several times they did not care about him?

And lastly, if you aren't an absolute dog lover - or worse, consider dogs pets and not four-legged humans - don't get this book. The dogs were center stage. That is probably a good selling point for dog lovers, but it just wasn't for me.

I have thoroughly enjoyed other Fern Michaels' books, but I found this one strangely incomplete. I would recommend Ms. Michaels' other books and suggest skipping this one.

Summary: NOT PLAIN JANE
Review: I JUST FINISHED PLAIN JANE. WOW! HOW CAN ONE PERSON THINK OF SO MANY THINGS TO WRITE ABOUT IN ONE BOOK. I WAS DISAPPOINTED WHEN IT WAS DONE I WANTED MORE. THE GHOSTS WERE A WONDERFUL TOUCH. I DO BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE AND I LOVED THE WAY FERN MICHAELS LET US THINK A GHOST COULD NOT REST UNTLIL THEIR SPIRIT WAS AT PEACE WONDERFUL. THE BOOK MADE ME AWARE OF THE K9 SITUATION SINCE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF A PORTION OF THE BOOK WENT TO BUYING VESTS FOR THE K9 BOOKS. GREAT WRITING KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK FERN MICHAELS

Summary: Plain Jane
Review: I found this book utterly delightful - resident ghost was a wonderful touch. The story line flowed and her determination to solve the mystery of the rape during her college years was most believable. The god parents were so believable and many of their oneliners had me laughing out loud. Have been a fan of Fern Michaels since her Texas series and find her grasp of people and families engrossing.

Summary: Plain Jane
Review: Fantastic - like you would expect less from Fern Michaels. I received the book and once I started reading could hardly put it down (only did when absolutely necessary). Fern developes the most interesting characters in all of her books and this one is no exception. Dogs were unusually great in this one. Great story line and kept you on your toes the whole time. Loved it. Keep up the good work Fern. Penny Leaptrot
