Summary: Worth your time to read!
Review: Barbara Delinsky captures your attention on the first page of this novel. This is a book you start only when you have nothing critical pending; for you will read it in one sitting. Ms. Delinsky writes a beautiful love story proving that love SOMETIMES can conquer all. Be prepared for several twists in the plot, though. (And have the kleenex ready!) "Three Wishes" can again make you believe that dreams really can come true and that love is the greatest gift of all.

Summary: Love, life, and the people that mean most to us.
Review: That is what a Delinsky novel reminds me of. I have yet to read one that hasn't brought tears to my eyes. THREE WISHES is set in a small Vermont town where the inhabitants are like family. It is here that the author quckly pulls you into the lives of the characters that will soon step from the pages of this book right into your heart.

Bree Miller is the beloved daughter of the town, with no living family to speak of, and she is about to meet with a near fatal occurrence that will leave her with three wishes. Our story takes off from here with unsuspected twists and turns that brings happiness as well as sadness to all involved.

Written with a bit of mysticism and a what if sense to it, this book was quite enjoyable and sentimental in a Nicholas Sparks sort of way. Kelsana 6/9/02

Summary: It's a different kind of read...
Review: The setting is that of a small Vermont town where the community knows everyone and is a family. The waitress at the local cafe, Bree Miller has no family in fact the community is her family. While walking on her way home one evening, Bree is hit by a passing jeep that is forced off the road by a truck that loses control on the icy road. She is rushed to the hospital and has a near-death experience while being revived on the operating table. During her "out-of-body" experience she receives three wishes to ask for.

The driver of the jeep, Tom Gates feels responsible and stays at the hospital for the days that it takes Bree to recover. Bree and Tom start getting to know each other by sharing about each other's lives. Tom is a famous author that has escaped from all of the publicity to the country to find himself again. He had separated himself from friends and family only to find himself alone in his life of fame and fortune. Through his time with Bree, Tom's experiences the joy of a simpler life. As Bree moves home from the hospital Tom becomes a regular there, too, against the wishes of the community, to help Bree continue to recover. She becomes more and more an important part of his life as he does for her- filling a void in her life for love that she never expected to experience. But what about the three wishes... were they real or just a dream? And what happens after the third wish is made? Bree and Tom fall in love but there are still parts of Bree's life that she wants to find out about - like the mystery of her mother that she never knew. Get ready... it's a tear jerker! Bree and Tom's love is sooooo fresh, sweet, and strong - yes, it is graphic at times, too! You will get to know everyone in the community - they all play important parts throughout the story (whether you like them or not). And the end was hard to accept-even though I knew what was coming before it happened but it still hurt. Yes, I cried! And still do just thinking of it, it was that strong. For some it will be depressing, but what a sweet story.

So if you are ready for something different. This one's for you.

Summary: What if wishes really could come true?
Review: Barbara has exceptionally mastered fitting all of the multifaceted concepts of love into a single work. Love between a man and woman, family, community, and even life itself is presented in such an emotional and clever way you will find yourself drawn in completely to the story. The protagonist, Bree Miller, seizes the reader with her dreams as well as her sensibility and independence. She immediately pulls you in with her extreme modesty, besides being a solitary spirit abandoned by her own mother. After she awakens from the accident, it becomes too easy to instantly fall in love with her and cheer her on as her whole world changes from that of a rational and lonely waitress to fortunate heroine gifted with a new life and three wishes. Panama, Vermont changes from a cozy place of quiet solitude to your own extended family and friends and the love shared by Bree and Tom will make you see you own loved ones with new compassion. Warmth radiates from the pages making it impossible to set down. Add in a tear-jerking ending and you have an excellent read.

This is a book you can go back to a thousand times and feel the same elation and heartache.

Summary: Bittersweet Love Story
Review: While walking home one evening during a raging snowstorm, waitress Bree Miller is struck by a vehicle skidding out of control on the icy road. The vehicle's driver is renowned author, Tom Gates, who has just moved to the small Vermont town to take stock of his life tainted by fame. Tom accompanies Bree to the hospital, and remains with her during her recovery there, and eventually at home. Bree has no family to speak of, and her dreams of a home, a man to love, and family, appear to be within her grasp in the form of Tom. Eventually, she confides in him of her out-of-body experience, during the time her heart had stopped after the accident. She saw a white light, full of love, which once revived; she felt this entity had given her three wishes. The only thing is, she thinks there's a possibility she may die again once her wishes are fulfilled.

This was my first book to read by this author, and so far I haven't read any of her other work. It was a very well written and compelling story, with interesting, multi-faceted characters. In fact, I could hardly put the book down, because I kept wondering how it would end. The reason I haven't read anything else by this author, as good as she is, is because it was an emotionally draining story for me, full of bittersweet moments. My reading preference leans more toward romantic comedies or sweet, romantic love stories. If you don't mind quite a bit of sadness in your romance reads, then this is probably the book for you.

Summary: A Good Story with a Sad Ending!
Review: Barbara Delinsky is one of my favorite authors, I listened to the audiobook recording of her book Three Wishes which was read by Amy Brenneman who some reviewers may know as the actress who stars in the TV show Judging Amy and she was very good as the reader. The story is good but has a very sad ending which I have to admit upset me because I just wasn't expecting it and was hoping for the typical escapist romance book with a happy ending and though I didn't care for the ending I liked everything else about Three Wishes and I recommend it to fans of Barbara Delinsky, but be prepared for a very sad ending that might make you feel a little blue and maybe even cry! So you might want to have a hankerchief or a box of facial tissues close by.

Summary: Too Much Too Soon!
Review: Sorry but I just didn't like Three Wishes, I like Barbara Delinsky and think she's a terrific writer but I just didn't enjoy Three Wishes and thought it was depressing especially as a loved one had just passed away so this was just not the right book for me!

Summary: Wishes are real...
Review: An awesome book for anyone that believes wishes really do come true. Bree wakes up in a hospial bed after being hit by a car. She remembers dying and remembers that she will be granted three wishes whenever she asks for them. Tom was there when she was hit and stays by her side through out. They end up falling in love and Bree tells Tom about her experience from beyond. Is what she remembers real and what will happen after she makes that third wish?

Summary: A lovely love story
Review: This is a wonderful, unpredictable love story that falls within reach of anyone. No "fairy tale rich, pretty girl with a great body or a high paying job" story or the predictable "waiting for someone to rescue me so I'll do nothing with my life" story. Instead, Bree is a very capable young woman who suffers a mishap and Tom just happens to be there when this happens.

Summary: Barbara's Best
Review: She is one of my favorite authors but I don't always like everything she does.

This story is the perfect blend of near-death mysticism, romance, and small-town life.

Some of the love scenes get pretty racy, but it ends up very sad at the end, and will have you thinking long after you've finished.

This is the perfect Winter book as it takes place, the majority, in a very cold Vermont snow. The small-town Vermont setting is far better than any of the other small-town "Lake Henry" novels Delinsky has done.

Anyone who likes Nicholas Sparks or Luanne Rice is sure to like Three Wishes.
