Summary: The Definitive Book for the region
Review: I used this book while trekking the Gossainkund track and found the book to contain all the information I required. It ensured travel was easy and the details on the villages were extremely helpful. I was travelling without a guide and felt there was no need with this book. Well worth the money if heading to this region, though good to have a general Nepal guide if heading to Nepal for the first time as this book focuses on the trekking.

Summary: Traveling companion?
Review: Jamie McGuiness' book will prove a good companion for your trek up the Langtang Valley.

The format is easy to use; uncomplicated maps suggest each day's journey and are presented in a page-by-page format. These are accompanied by route-finding tips, short cuts and interesting diversions along the route.

In addition to route-finding information, cultural, historical and philosophical dialogues are highlighted in a series of text boxes.

These dialogues hit the right note; not too much information for your tired mind recovering in the evening's lodge but sufficient to open an extra window into the landscape and people you are travelling through.

As with many specialist trekking guides, there is a brief section covering orientation in Kathmandu. There is nothing wrong with this but you will find a general guide book on Nepal MUCH more helpful here (i.e. better accomodation, eating and sight-seeing tips).

DON'T get this book if you want a general guide to Nepal but fancy a bit of trekking on the side.

DO get this book if you want to learn more about Langtang, Helambu and Gosainkund as you pass through - its well worth it...
