Rating: 5 stars
Summary: maybe the most useful book I've ever owned
Review: I have eaten at about 200 of the restuarants in this book and with the exception of one they were dead on. I wish an updated version would be published. Some of the listings are closed.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great Book For The Frequent Traveler !
Review: The book gives a concise description of places to eat in any size city in the USA. Does not give a lot of detail but can be useful if your not always interested in five star restaurants.

Summary: Along with my atlas, this goes with me everywhere!
Review: We travel frequently. On our recent Florida excursion, we found the listings in Where the Locals eat extremely helpful. Since that trip we have bought copies for several of our friends, who report that it is as useful to us as it is to them. I'll never have to settle for fast food on the road again just because I want something I can trust. There are very few places I've been that Where the Locals Eat doesn't cover. Anyone who travels a lot, especially by automobile, should have this book next to the atlas, the cassette tapes and the band-aids! I can no longer imagine traveling anywhere without this book. Recently on one of the rec.travel newsgroups there was a thread concerning the search for the best German restaurants in Milwaukee. Of the four whose names consistently came up in the discussion, three were listed in Where the Locals Eat under Best German Food. I haven't missed yet by following the recommendations in this book. And it's not just expensive or specialty food either. A hamburger in Tallahassee, seafood in Savannah, barbecue in Birmingham, you name it, it's in there. And it fits neatly in my briefcase too!
