Review: As a resident of the Bay Area for over 20 years I have just begun to pay frequent visits to Mount Diablo State Park. This guide will be always in my possession when visiting the park. Whatever one's interest, it should be covered here in enough detail to whet the appetite to search for more information. It is not a detailed look at the park. That would be too large and would not fit in a fanny pack. What the guide gives you is essential facts that should lead to a better understanding of what lies before you. The guide is divided into sections on: general information, highlights, history, animals, plants, geology and hiking. My interest lies with birds, butterflies and plants. This guide along with the general guides to these fields of interest will prove to be helpful. It already has answered a question about the occurence of peregrine falcon in the park. My sighting was confirmed by the information provided. This is not a definitive guide to the park. It is, however, a great help in understanding the wonderful environment that is encompassed within this 19,000 acre island. Highly recommended. Keep it in your fanny pack.
