Review: This is the first printed guide I turn to for information about ski destinations close to home. For years, these authors had a corner on the kick-and-glide market. They set the trail for others to follow, with the familiar format of two pages, a B&W photo and a sketch map per entry. With several new, specialty books on the market for snowshoeing and snowboarding, skiers still prefer Kirkendall and Spring, because the authors share the aesthetic that draws us to Nordic skiing: a simple sport, with dignity, and as much respect for its heritage as for the environment in which we practice it.
