Summary: The encyclopedia of pet travel information
Review: I've looked at all of the pet travel guides but found most to be too limiting and without enough information. AAA and Mobil guides merely excerpt information from their main series of travel guides and don't discuss the thousands of other great places to stay with a pet. The others limit me to name, address, and telephone number. I've owned On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend for six months, have taken over a dozen trips using it, and would not plan one without it. The web site information is great and allows me to see most of the hotels and inns before I ever make a reservation or put down a deposit. I also like the authors' descriptions of the better accommodations. Thanks for an indispensible resource!

Summary: Essential for traveling with pets.
Review: If you recently adopted a pet, this book is essential if you plan to travel with your pet. All of the hotel, airline, trains, campground regulations are discussed. The documentation and supplies needed are indicated. As well as, a discussion, on a personal level, of the possible hazards and pitfalls associated with pet travel.

Summary: Superlative resource
Review: In planning a cross-country trip with my dog (and wife too) for Summer 2000, this proved an invaluable resource. It lists thousands of pet-friendly places to stay in virtually every city and major town in all 50 states. Although the entries for each inn are very basic, they hit the high points: address, phone, web site, pet policy, and basic amenities. Places they have visited or for which they have received multiple reader recommendations are starred. I also like the fact that they cover a wide range of establishments, ranging from cottages to motels to bed-and-breakfasts to top-of-the-line hotels. Its not really a travel guide you'll need, because the information is too abbreviated, but it is a very valuable reference tool. Highly recommended.

Summary: On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend
Review: My husband is in the Navy and we move every 18 months; On the Road with Man's Best Friend is an absolute essential. We have gone cross country twice not to mention many, many car trips in-between and have found the book to be extremely reliable. A great tool for plans that can change, it has all the essential info - How many pets, If a deposit is required, address info and phone number. All you need is a cell (or pay) phone and a couple of pooches! I would never take a trip without this book with me even if we are traveling without the dogs. A great resource!

Summary: Stick with the AAA guides
Review: On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend suffers from a single, major fault: it does not rate the accommodations it lists. The AAA guides, on the other hand, contain basically the same information as On the Road AND include hotel/motel ratings. This is critical, because I don't want to end up at Bates Motel even if they DO permit pets. 8-}

Summary: A reader who has travelled across US
Review: This guide would have been very helpful if i had a small dog - most of the places listed in this book only take small dogs. The guide would have been more useful it was specific about the size of dog allowed (big or small). Also found places that stated they would take dogs had changed policies so keeping the guide up to date would be a must.

Summary: A Five Paw Rating
Review: This is the most well-researched and in-depth pet travel book that I have come across. For years I have looked long and hard for a great resource on pet-friendly accommodations. I've called chambers of commerce, travel associations, and looked through books that promise detailed information but don't deliver. I like to stay in B&Bs and small inns - there are more to choose from here than I will ever have time to visit. I relied on this book during a recent trip to Florida and Georgia. One of the author recommended inns had treats for my dog, as well as bottled water, a bowl, and bed. (I was also given lots of special attention). I give On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend the five-star Amazon rating as well as a five paw rating to match.

Summary: On the Road with our Golden Retriever
Review: We received On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend as a gift and just used it to take a driving trip from New York to Florida with our Golden Retriever. We followed the book's advice and always called ahead. Either we were fortunate or selected well, but most of the places in the book welcomed our big dog and made us all feel comfortable. We even discovered that many of the hotels with "small dog only" policies were more than happy to accept a larger dog. I like the detail and the number of choices this book offered. We've used other books, but most don't even include pet size restrictions. I don't blame the authors for the fact that many places prefer small dogs, they're just reporting the facts. We do find fault with hotels that severely restrict size limits - we've found it's not the size of the dog that is the problem, but the personality of the pet that can make things difficult.

Summary: Detailed Listings Extremely Helpful
Review: We've used the book for over a year now and found many excellent places to stay with our two small dogs. We found the detailed listings to be extremely helpful during our trip across the southern states. We knew in advance if there was a pool, what the pet policies were, and other details that were left out of most other books. We have also used it to travel around New England and have found many gems that we never would have located without On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend. This book has saved us on many occasions and we don't plan a trip without it.
