Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great small book at a budget price
Review: Although this volume does not compare in size and scope with the author's previous books on Puerto Rico, this is nonetheless a superb "portrait" of this island, at a budget price. The full-color photographs are absolutely gorgeous, with lots of aerial shots. But this isn't just a "postcard" view of Borinquen -- there's coverage of the history, architecture, and culture, too. The author-photographer has been traveling to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean for over two decades, and it shows both in his photographs and his concise text. The picture captions are rather brief, but nonetheless present little gems of info about the picture subject matter. This book has the feel of an insider's view, as you would expect of someone who's already produced three other, larger, more complete books on Puerto Rico. Mr. LaBrucherie is an artist with a camera, and no slouch with words either.
