The Traveler's Guide to the Lewis & Clark Trail (A Falcon guide)

Summary: More of travel log than a historical piece.
Review: I thought the book was a good reference tool for planning a trip along the trail. It does a very good job of laying out which roads (freeways, byways, etc) to take to follow the trail. It also suggests many lodging and eating options, and other interesting attractions in the towns along the modern day trail. In the preface the author makes a reference to another book (title escapes me at the moment) that is an appropriate companion book for readers who want additional historical information. This book does not provide much in the way of historical information at all.

Summary: A MUST HAVE BOOK!
Review: Julie Fanselow's book, "The Traveler's Guide to the Lewis and Clark Trail", is in my opinion, the best book of it's genre on the market. It is very informative, with information concerning numerous ways to see "The Trail" in sections or the whole route in as short a time as two weeks. Every chapter is dedicated to a separate section of "The Trail", and sites within the section have a supchapter dedicated to them. The information concerning different locations is all well written, including fees and hours of operations. At the end of every chapter, there is a section dedicated to locations to find food and lodging, which is helpful to travelers living outside of those areas. The book is also well illustrated with both maps and photographs. Most of the sites discussed in the book have photographs showing the site in black and white, or in color for the major sites. The maps included are basic in nature, but are able to lead visitors to the sites without difficulty. All in all, a book I consider to be the best book of it's type yet written, and it will be even better once the author updates it!
