Summary: An excellent tool for better eating habits
Review: A couple months ago, I finally got fed up with all the weight I had gained since starting university 3 years ago. So I set out to not just diet but to change my eating habits to better facilitate lifelong health. This book has been key in helping me shed 1/4 and counting of my excess weight. It may not have a listing for everything (man, that would be one huge book) BUT with some common sense you can use similar items or ingredients to find out the approximate calories in a food item - which I do a lot since I have to eat out of a cafeteria that doesn't always provide nutritional info for its odd concoctions.

Summary: A superb guide to eating better--not just for dieters!
Review: A good friend recommended to me Allan Borushek's "The Doctor's Pocket Calorie Fat & Carbohydrate Counter" and I ordered a copy the next day. I have found it to be the single soundest, most detailed, most comprehensive, and easiest-to-use nutrition book I've ever seen.

Not only does Borushek give calorie/fat/carb information, he gives detailed information on recommended fat intake, carbs and diabetes, calories-burned-per-minute for dozens of different forms of exercise, food diary and eating habit tips, and more. This book is PACKED with not just information, but USABLE information that can make a real difference in your eating habits and in turn, your energy level.

One of the best things Borushek does here is give detailed, concise calorie/fat/carb counts for foods from over one hundred different chain or nationally known restaurants. It's really difficult to go wrong here. I'm delighted to have educated myself a little more via Borushek's very valuable book.

Summary: It lives up to it's name-America's Best!
Review: I have been counting calories for a long time-over 20 years and this is the best pocket-sized book I've ever owned! It's eye-appealing and is loaded with excellent information. Besides calorie counts, the book also takes care of you if you are on a low-carb diet or watching fat grams! Most pages also have excellent and helpful notes, funny cartoons or witty sayings that help you keep your sense of humor while policing your food intake. I was so pleased to finally have one book that I con carry in my purse that is so comprehensive. I have used this book for less than 2 weeks and have lost 6 lbs! For me it has added a little more "fun" to my diet. This little book has lots of helpful health info, too. I am really enjoying it and am recommending it to my friends! This is the book I always wanted but didn't know existed until now! Thank you so much!!!

Summary: The best!
Review: I have bought more than half a dozen calorie, fat & carbohydrate count books. This one is the best. Small in size, and will fit in pants pocket, jacket, or purse. Extensive listings of foods. Before I bought this book, I thought it mostly covered fast food chains. Not so. It also includes info on the ingredients basic to many home recipes. I've found the info I needed about table sugar, flour, oils, etc., which allows me to convert many of my old favorite recipes into low fat, low carbohydrate dishes. Also included are concise references to valuable diabetes, weight loss, exercise, and cholesterol information.

Summary: A great buy!
Review: I have had this book for about a week and it has been the most useful out of MANY calorie counter books I have. It does not list Protein for many foods other than restaurant foods, but is awesome for everything else. I have found 90% of the items I wanted quickly and easily. The restaurant section contains mini-lists of their food offerings, but at least shows some good reference points. I highly recommend this for anyone that is having trouble finding a calorie counting book they like!

Summary: By Far THE BEST!
Review: I have not written very many reviews but I have bought quite a few Food Count references and this is BY FAR THE BEST.
Everything I need to find is in the book and easy to locate.
Many of these type of books do not include an index, this one does.
It also has ALL the counts I want, calories, fat and carb.s.
There is also much more information in this small easy to carry diet guide.
Includes great diabetic, fiber, osteoporosis, and protein & iron guides!
Along with an alcohol guide and counter.
I was able to find listings for Starbucks and TGI Fridays pre-mixed drinks that is not listed on the labels or readily provided by the companies.
I would recommend this to anyone and plan on giving them as stocking stuffers to friends and relatives who are trying to eat a more well balanced diet!
(BTW, I always wonder if people who leave such glowing reviews are somehow affiliated with the book somehow, I assure you I'm just someone out there who purchased and love it!)

Review: I would give a review for this item if I could. But the person gave me a refund for the book so I can't review it. Sorry.

Summary: Wow! What a source of info!
Review: I've had to switch to a low-fat diet, and part of that entails counting calories and fat grams. What fun! I remember the old-style paperback books that list figures in tiny little print, and didn't include any of the items one might encounter while eating out. What a chore!

Well, this little pocket-sized book has made quite a difference in my attitude about keeping track of nutritional information! This is a very small book, but the pages are well-planned and deliver a LOT of information in a very understandable way. The first section of the book gives a much-needed refresher on basic nutritional guidelines, healthy eating, and strategies for eating out (what to look for, what to avoid). Then the guide continues with the "traditional" format of listing foods by type (meat/poultry, vegetables, soups, etc.), including brand names and regional brands. Data of each type (calories, fat, etc.) is laid out in columns, but is also keyed in color to help you remember what number goes with what heading.

The section on chain restaurants is perhaps the best and most comprehensive listing I've ever seen in print. Even though the amazon title states 80 fast-food chains are included, the current version actually lists 101 chains, including all the big national chains and many regional or smaller ones. Menu items' nutritional content is broken down more completely in this section (e.g., fat is also shown as % calories from fat and saturated fat content) -- this is extremely helpful in making smart choices while out and about. There is also a web site associated with the book, that contains additional nutritional information as well as updates to the material in the book.

I love this book so much I have two for myself (one for home, one for the car) and bought one for my mother! I highly recommend this as a very useful tool for anyone who wants to get a handle on their eating habits and start making more informed dietary choices.
