Summary: Sadly, a disappointment
Review: I love Chinese food, and I was eagerly awaiting this book so I could compare my Chinese food quest to the author's.

John Krich is at his best when describing the food, his surroundings, and most importantly, telling the stories of the people he meets. Unfortunately, in between are some of the worst puns I've ever encountered, many typos and a lot of historical text that seems to be filler.

The strong hand of an editor could have helped this book, which to me, is like visiting a *bad* Chinese restaurant for which you had high hopes.

Summary: Needs serious editing
Review: I really wanted to like this book. It is a great concept, and who doesn't want to know where to get the best Chinese food? Unfortunately, his writing , although full of style, is lacking in substance. Much like a poorly prepared meal, the reader is left with a bad taste in her/his mouth. His writing tries too hard to be hip to the GenXers, and cool to the Boomers. In this case it really isn't enough. Personally, I regret buying this book, as I have only managed to read 2/3 of it. And there are very few books I ever regret buying. I just can't force myself to finish it.
