Summary: Intelligent overall picture of Thai Women
Review: A nicely done bird's eye view of Thai women and the controversies surrounding their fascination for Western men. The photographs range from OK to good to those which make me want to be there. The text is smooth and I think acurrate but doesn't dwell on the many tricks Thai woman will get away with - if you let them.

Anyway, a good book for someone who would like to know what the fuss is all about or for someone who just likes looking at pretty women who enjoy being looked at. And of course their wonderful attitude toward men and sex is a big part of their popularity.

Summary: Nice photos, needs more text.
Review: Author Barret is obviously in love with the women of Thailand.
Looking at the pictures, I can understand why. It almost seems to be a fascination that borders on obsession. While it's a very good book overall, the text, although short and to the point in most cases, is spaced sporadically through the pictures. Paragraph, photo, photo, photo, paragraph, photo, etc.
Makes for awkward reading. There are a few revealing pictures, women shown topless, but with their nipples covered by yellow stars, something I thought was a bit cheesy and childish. Like Barret, or maybe the publisher (Village East Books) never stopped to think that most people who buy this book will more than likely be adult males over the age of 18. Some of the remarks about how Western women, out of jealousy, belittle Thai women, may offend some American females. They definitely have something to be jealous of........the women of Thailand are indeed mysterious as well as beautiful. If you're looking for a more in-depth account of Thailand and it's people, this is not the book. But for an interesting glimpse into the lives of the women of Thailand, this book will fit the bill. Loads of nice color photographs.

Summary: Fugly men need love too
Review: EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT!!! Those of us who have come here have invariably discovered the beauty of a Thai lady. This book gives you background on the ladies of Thailand. The only deficiency is in its historical perspective of Thai women--some more insight would be great. However, it does give the Thai-experienced man a confirmation of what he has suspected in all of his travels-- the best women on Earth come from Thailand. Superb companions, and lovers, someone who will be on your level through any challenge. The pictures (the primary method of the book)display Thai women from cultural celebrations to the bars we all know from Pattaya to Patpong. A truly inspired book, wrtitten by a Lover-of-Thai-Women. A must have for any Thai-loving man in the world! I'll have a Mah-kong coke for you, and I'll see you in Thailand.

Summary: Wasn't really what I expected
Review: Found this book in the Bookazine store on Sukhumvith Road in Bangkok. I can testify it is accurate and the women are as beautiful and as friendly as in the book. A fine book. I'll be heading back to Bangkok in February. Counting the days!

Summary: Fugly men need love too
Review: I don't get it - this is a book supposed to be representative of women who are the most beautiful - and the cover picture looks like a sex change case from Johns Hopkins. The other pictures are a real dissapointment, most are amateurish and representative of typical expat pap.

The men who frequent Thailand are some of the most repulsive I've ever seen - Patpong road looks like some sort of 24/7 Ugly Man Festival. These women are so poor that they have to sleep with these guys to make money. I don't envy them. Thai women are not only attractive, they are some of the bravest women on earth, and I salute them.

Summary: Best in the Field
Review: I enjoyed the book with letters to and from bargirls but this is a beautiful photobook with pix of Thai ladies of all professions and it is a lot more informative. I've been to the Big Mango lots of times and I can testify that the information here is right on! I thought the author had an in-depth knowledge of his field and was very balanced in the end about all those who try to put their own spin on the attraction of foreign men for Thai women. If this book doesn't make you want to go to Thailand, check your pulse: you may be dead.

Summary: Very Nicely done photobook
Review: It would be hard to go wrong with a 160 page photobook on Thai women and this book is well worth the price. The author obviously knows his subject well (and loves his subject) and the essays are intelligent and pictures reveal various aspects of Thai women, cultural, sexy, etc. The author says he wants to explore why foreign men fall for Thai women and he does a good job of explaining and showing why.

Summary: Countryside Women the Best
Review: One of the things I love about this book is that so many of the women are from the countryside. Although almost all of the nightlife shots are in Bangkok, the first half of the book concentrates on women who still represent the majority of Thai women: ricefield workers, construction workers, etc.

There is little of the middle class Bangkok type which is fine because urban middle class types are pretty much the same the world over. In the case of Thailand, the middle- and upper middle-class types usually go abroad on daddy's credit cards and go to universities such as Stanford and look down their arrogant noses at Thai women who have to work to feed their kids and who don't have college degrees, light complexioned skin, and daddy's charge accounts. This is the type of close-minded Thai woman who may be schooled for years in fine universities but who will never be truly educated and, indeed, will never rise beyond her class arrogance. I hope next edition, if there is one, the author will add even more women in sarongs, etc., in countryside settings. Those are the photographs that capture the true charm of Thai women; not spoiled upper-middle class brats.

Summary: Great Introduction
Review: This book is a great introduction to the women of the Land of Smiles. 160 pages of photographs and lots of text. Of course, I've been to Bangkok a number of times so I might point out that as great as the women look in the book they are even better in person, up close and personal.

But what I really like is the often witty and well reasoned discussion of why men are crazy about Thai girls and why western girls get so upset about the situation. Like the author says, everybody has his or her own spin to put on the situation. Charming and beautiful, yeah, but if you marry a country girl best to keep her ikn the Thai countryside. Not try to westernize her. It won't take and it will just cause trouble. In other words, don't be afraid to live in Thailand and get a bit involved in the culture. The more you know about Thailand, the molre chance of having a great relationship with a thai woman. Anyway, that's my two baht worth. I think this great book will open a few eyes.

Summary: Great round-up of a great scene!
Review: This book will be controversial but it does a great job of revealing what the scene in Thailand is like, what the women are like, and what the nightlife scene is like. The text is well written and informative and the photographs are for the most part well done also.
I have been to several places mentioned in both sections of the book and find the book quite accurate (although places like Clinton Plaza have now changed because the go go bars are gone) and a few of the bars have changed their names. Anyway, well written and a great round-up for those who want to know what the scene in Thailand is like.
