Summary: Don't plan your cruise without this guide!
Review: As first-time cruisers, we had much to learn. This guide explains everything, answered all of my questions and provided a wonderful overview of the cruise. This book is a must if you're taking the Disney cruise!

Summary: Better than Birnbaums
Review: Don't bother buying both. This one is much more useful and easy to use. I agree with the comments above. Start your cruise early by buying this guide and really get the most for your money! I feel like it is stretching the experience and giving me a head start by familiarizing me with what to expect.

Do consider ditching your nice luggage for nylon totes/something easily compactable or at least nesting - we are bringing the ones we use to pack our camping gear in when we travel because they are thin, strong and hold a lot, plus they collapse completely and will take up much less space in our cabin.

Summary: Going on a cruise with DCL? You MUST get this book!
Review: I did tons of research before our cruise in April 2003, mostly on the Internet. About 75% of the info in this book can be found elsewhere, but not in one place--and that's what makes this purchase worthwhile.

I looked at lots of Caribbean travel books and was disappointed to find little to no valuable information on DCL's ports of call. It hardly seemed worth buying a big fat book on the Caribbean islands when only a handful of pages actually covered the ones I'd be visiting. This book, on the other hand, has several pages dedicated to each of DCL's ports of call and excellent descriptions of excursions and on-your-own adventures.

Especially useful are sample menus for the DCL restaurants, details of spa services, packing tips, stateroom plans, and misc "magical" hints to make a DCL cruise memorable.

I discovered some inaccuracies while on the cruise, but nothing that ruined my vacation. Changes in schedules, activities, menus, prices, etc. are inevitable. Fortunately the authors keep their web site up to date with revisions.

Two things I love about this book besides the content in general: one, the authors aren't snobbish or know-it-alls; they're "real" people. I don't worry that they're being paid by someone to say positive things, and they seem to be very honest with their reviews. Two, it's a compact book that's easy to take along anywhere--and believe me, you'll want to.

Don't re-invent the wheel! Get this book, and if it doesn't answer all your questions, THEN check out some of the few excellent web sites dedicated to DCL info.

Summary: Big Help for First Time Cruisers
Review: I was able to easily find answers to all of my questions about our first ever planned cruise on Disney's Magic. Filled with things that would take forever to find on-line yourself. Tips and suggestions for things that I never would have thought of. Well worth the cost of the book.

Summary: Taking a Disney Cruise? This is the only book you need!
Review: Once again, Jennifer Watson and Dave Marx have done an outstanding job with the new edition of the Passporter Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line! This volume is comprehensive, informative and easy-to-use. The authors are genuine Disneyphiles and their affection for all things Disney is evident in every page of this book. However, they are not blind to its (few) flaws and are careful to let readers know aspects of their trips did not meet their standards. This book is very carefully researched, right down to which meals and restaurants are the best, which cabins are quietest, which cabins have "secret" portholes and which on-shore excursions are best value for the money. Readers will really appreciate their insider tips on how to get the most from their Disney cruise. And the information in the book is regularly updated on the authors' website. I have been vacationing at Disney for decades and Passporter has been my vacation guide ever since they started publishing it. You're going to be spending thousands of dollars on your Disney cruise...spend a few dollars more and you'll be investing in a book that will really help you get the most out of your vacation. Passporter is outstanding and worth every cent!

Summary: Finally a DCL Guidebook
Review: We are planning a Disney Cruise for May 2004 and this book is full of the most valueable information I have ever come across on Cruise ships. The maps alone are worth the purchase. I love the details described for the staterooms and I have never found info on ports and shore excursions in any other books like what is printed here. Great job Jennifer & Dave

Summary: helpful no matter how much you think you know
Review: We rec'd this book only days before we left on our cruise. Despite doing extensive research on the web for months prior, within minutes of receiving the Passporter I learned new and useful information. The book was a joy to have onboard as we used it throughout the day to determine dining choices and entertainment possibilities. Most importantly the index and/or maps provided instant clarification to questions about specific locations on the ship. The book is written in an easy to follow format and in such a way that makes you think of Jennifer and Dave as old friends just giving advice. Great Book.

Summary: Excellent guide to Disney Cruise Line
Review: What a great idea! And what a great guide! This is the first guide I've seen dedicated to one cruise line. It's about time one comes on the market. And the best thing about the guide, there is information that can be used even if sailing on a line other than Disney, including info on ports-of-call, packing tips, and what to expect in general with cruising. Of course, the best part is the information on DCL itself! Restaurant reviews, stateroom guides, and worksheets on how to plan your days. If you are taking a cruise, especially a Disney cruise, this guide is a must!
