Rating: Summary: the right stuff Review: "The Beginners Guide to Bali" is the most useful guide to Bali I have encountered yet. Being a full-time dive instructor in Thailand, I take my holidays in Bali several times a year. This guide is the most convenient, updated guide available. The used bookstores where I work are stacked to the ceiling with abandoned and outdated Lonely guides. I like to travel light and the cd-rom is awesome-I HIGHLY recommend the guide to anyone traveling to Bali for the first time or just wants to be kept up to date on what is really happening there. Pays for itself every time!
Rating: Summary: the new wave of travel guides Review: As a local born Balinese working in the tourist business in Bali, I would like to highly recommend "The Beginners Guide to Bali" to all first time visitors. This travel guide is an excellent "starter" guide in helping visitors become acquainted with the Kuta Beach area- the first stop in Bali. This travel guide has helped many of my clients in their transition to the outer areas of Bali. My customers find the information very useful and the compact cd-rom is the future of travel guides in the tour business.
Rating: Summary: a travel guide that gets to the point Review: As a professional woman in the international news business, I find myself flying to different countries on a minutes notice. I appreciated "The Beginners Guide to Bali" because of its no nonsense approach to the new arrivals need to become acclimated quickly upon arrival in Kuta. This guide did not waste any of my time. It also cd-rom size and easy to access. I'd recommend it.

Rating: Summary: So I'm going to Bali Review: I found the CD-ROM to be extremely informative in thinking about what to pack, what to expect in customs, where to eat, how to bargain and many more questions I had when considering a trip to Bali. I have actually used the information in this CD-ROM to prepare my "Bali travel book" that I can use as a quick reference while I'm there. It provides first hand practical information that most travel books do not, or would not include about how to travel on a budget. I would highly recommend this CD-ROM to anyone considering a trip to Bali.
Rating: Summary: smokin'! Review: look-it's simple- you don't go into a gunfight unarmed-you don't go into Bali for the first time without "The Beginners Guide to Bali". Trust me.
Rating: Summary: ripped off before you get to Bali Review: The Beginnners guide to Bali prints out at a total of 58 pages triple spaced. The very meager information can be found in any of several Bali travel guides. The only destination in Bali that is treated with any consideration is Kuta. There is nothing at all on Ubud for example. There are several pictures with no indication of where they were taken. Nothing of value here, a real dissapointment especially for a beginner.
Rating: Summary: A definite must for first timers. Review: The guide was extremely informative about the important stuff like, how to bargain without getting ripped off, where to stay, and what to stay away from such as the no-metered taxi cabs, cane chairs, and tourist traps especially in the Kuta area. The Cd-Rom is more up-to-date than any book you could purchase in the bookstore because it is constantly being updated. My husband and I went to some of the restaurants that are recommended, and for the price the food was outstanding. This is for the person who wishes to travel to paradise on a budget, but who wishes to experience all that Bali has to offer.
Rating: Summary: good to go Review: this guide is easy to read, easy to carry and easy on the pocketbook-it was everything i needed for my first time to bali.
Rating: Summary: The perfect alternative to 1000 page monstrosities Review: To our readers: "The Beginners Guide to Bali" is a survival travel guide unique in its focus on reliable, pertinent and up-to-date information that serves as a crash course for the first time visitor to Bali. The guide is a super condensed, 60 page, easy to read, easy to carry cd-rom- universally compatible to virtually any available PC worldwide."The Beginners Guide to Bali" is the perfect alternative to the 1000 page monstrosities that disgorge obsolete and confusing information by the time they are published. Locals, expatriates and thousands of traveler's experiences help us to provide a factual and informative travel guide that can be relied upon. Monthly, sometimes weekly, updates that cannot be found in any other travel guide or even local Indonesian daily publications, are input into our guide. Purposefully, we are not like any other travel guide available. Historical and cultural perspectives on Bali can be found in hundreds of books written by outstanding authors. "The Beginners Guide to Bali" concentrates on providing the underground type of information a first time visitor typically learns by the time they are leaving- a little too late to be of any use. Wild and crazy Kuta Beach used to be the #1 tourist destination of all travelers to Indonesia. Denpasar Airport is the disembarkation point and first impression of Bali for 95% of all travelers visiting Bali. The proliferation of hustles, scams and diversions upon arrival have changed those numbers. Because first time visitors to Bali spend most of their time and money in Kuta Beach before exploring the outer areas of Bali, we offer information that will help to avoid these distractions and help make for a more pleasant stay. Our travel guide does not offer insights into overpriced, overbearing, contrived art colonies and tourist traps like Ubud, Lovina and Tanah Lot. We DO offer tips on how to avoid being ripped off by money changers and currency dealers, information, that in itself, will more than pay for the cost of our cd-rom. We strive to give truthful and helpful information that does not pander to any special interests, private enterprises and government agencies. "The Beginners Guide to bali" is designed to give every first time visitor a "heads-up" upon arrival at Denpasar Airport, hopefully making their stay in Bali a little more positive. We appreciate any criticsm and strive to improve our travel guide with every update. We feel so strongly that our readers will save the cost of our cd-rom within the first 24 hours in Bali that we will cheerfully refund 100% of the purchase price if you are not satisfied with our guide. a big hello to all of our readers who I have had the pleasure of meeting up with in Bali and hope to meet many more soon. Warmest regards, the author
