Summary: Author's comments on The Sports Fan's Guide to America
Review: "Trying to find your way to a stadium, college, or spring training facility? Want to see where your seats are for the tickets you just bought online? What are the good restaurants and hangouts nearby? Answers to myriad questions for the sports traveler." -- David Plaut, USA Today.

I appreciate the overview of my book by USA Today.

First, here is what you WON'T find in The Sports Fan's Guide to America:

-- Boring, high-brow commentary on sports in America.

-- Public-relations-type praise of teams and stadiums.

-- A book that sticks only to sports.

Here's what you WILL find:

-- 290 pages of PRACTICAL tips that will save you time and money.

-- The only place on Earth where you can find seating charts for EVERY major American sports venue, including ones that haven't even opened their doors yet!

-- The book is strong, very strong, on sports bars and nightlife.

In fact, if you can't meet somebody of the opposite gender using this book, shame on you! You're not trying hard enough. Or else you need to lose 85 pounds.

-- Thousands of phone numbers and web sites for sports teams, including the colleges and minor-league teams.

-- Detailed information on every major American and Canadian sports franchise.

-- Detailed information on every spring training site (and the best places nearby to stay and hang out).

-- A list of sports-talk radio stations throughout major American cities.

-- Lots of travel tips, both for public transportation (which I highly recommend when it comes to attending games) and for driving yourself.

You really don't have to be a sports fan to benefit from the book. If you travel, want to know the must-see spots in town, the nightlife districts, the cheapest ways to get from the airport to downtown, the book will be a help.

It's also reasonably priced, so much so that it should pay for itself when you consider the cost-saving tips. But most of all, there are just loads of tips on fun things to do. Enjoy it and thanks!

Summary: Superficial
Review: A very superficial and disappointing book. Barely gives more information than can be found on team web sites and less information than in other books. Basically a book of seating diagrams and driving directions. Very little commentary on the venues or the cities. No pictures. Glosses over the Canadian cities. There is a need for this kind of book for sports fans and with the publication of this particular book, sadly, the need still exists.

Summary: more newspaper reviews of "The Sports Fan's Guide"
Review: The San Francisco Examiner: "Looking for the best way to get to Yankee Stadium? The best sports bar in Charlotte? The best blues hangout in Kansas City? "All that and more can be found in "The Sports Fan's Guide to America," a witty and informative new paperback by Arizona sportswriter Mike Tulumelo. "In one 300-page volume, Tulumello offers a wide range of material on how best to get to all the country's major-league stadiums and arenas, park diagrams (seating charts) to determine where your seats are located, good restaurants and nightspots nearby, ticket, TV and radio outlets, team Web sites and trenchant observations from the author on a variety of other topics. "It's a tome well worth the cover price."

Summary: Look it over before you buy it....
Review: The Sports Fans' Guide to America brags that it has information on sports venues even ones that will be opening in the future, yet it doesn't even have the Arizona DBacks or thier stadium listed (this is their 2nd season).

This book is basically a look-up guide for seating charts for a lot of sports arenas in North America as well as directions on how to get there. And as Tulumello writes in the front of his book, you can find these same charts in the local phonebooks. So why buy his book? He does have a few good general pointers about buying tickets, but mostly this book is too general, covers too many sports arenas and glosses over all of them, with very little information on anything.

He also mentions his preference for Amtrak over air travel - that it can often be faster and cheaper. Like the 12 hour train from Minneapolis instead of the 50 minute flight?

It would be more helpful if someone wrote one book on ballparks, one on football fields, one on basketball courts, etc. and spend more time on each city. With insider info on each venue.

Summary: A Wealth Of Information For The Traveling Sports Fan.
Review: This book is full of key information to assist anyone interested in attending a major professional sporting event in the U.S. As a person who does this regularly, I have spent hours tracking down seating charts, phone numbers, etc. This book provides this information at your fingertips as well as helpful hints on sportsbars, local transportation, and more. This book will be a valuable resource to assist in my sports travel for years to come.
