Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I found this book a real disappointment for my 1998 trip and even wrote the following letter to the publisher:"I took this book with me on a recent trip to Thailand and was extremely disappointed in the section on Bangkok. So much so, that I even threw the book away while there. My complaint is against the tone of the writing by Steve Rosse. To say that Mr. Rosse does not like the city of Bangkok is an understatement. It was extremely frustrating being thousands of miles away from home in a foreign city with nothing to rely upon for advice but Mr. Rosse's cynicism. The book did contain an editorial comment to the effect that everyone has their own opinions and this is just one, etc, but in this case I really don't find that acceptable. Had I noticed that comment before buying the book, I would have chosen a travel guide with a more optimistic outlook. After all, I had invested a lot of time and money to go to Bangkok and I wanted to like the city. I will admit that Bangkok certainly has it drawbacks and that it may not live up to every traveler's expectations, but I would hope that you could find a qualified writer who can capture the excitement and beauty of what that area does have to offer. Mr. Rosse should not have been chosen to write about a city that he obviously does not like."
