Description:
As any member knows, AAA publishes some of the best maps of the United States. Now they have come out with a beautiful world atlas. A series of world terrain maps is followed by sections on individual regions: Europe, Asia, Pacific Ocean and Australia, Africa, South America, and North America. Each of these begins with political maps of the area and information on the region's population, vegetation, temperature, and rainfall. Each region is then divided into subregions, with additional information on the independent nations therein. For example, the entry for Bolivia includes a topographical map of the country, a picture of the flag, statistics on population (7,193,000) and area (424,163 square miles), and information on major languages (Spanish, Quechua, Aymara), the monetary unit (the Bolivian peso), the capitals (La Paz, Sucre), and the largest city (La Paz). Indexes specific to each map help you pinpoint cities in the area. In addition, Canada and the United States are treated in great detail, with entries for each individual province or state. A helpful "index of the world" lists all the cities shown on the maps in the book--from Aachen, German, to Zzyzx, California. The colorful, detailed maps, thorough indexes, and interesting statistics make the AAA World Atlas a wonderful reference book for automobile, airline, and armchair travelers alike. --C.B. Delaney
