Rating: Summary: Mapping and recreation guide to North Dakota Review: With its unique natural features and ties to the pioneering spirit of the Old West, North Dakota offers something for everyone. To help visitors and residents find their way around the Sioux State, DeLorme has just released the North Dakota Atlas & Gazetteer, a comprehensive large-format book that contains detailed maps and in-depth listings of places to go and things to do throughout North Dakota. Known for its waterfowl, grouse, and deer hunting and bass, trout, and northern pike fishing, North Dakota is famous for its state parks and recreation areas. North Dakota is also the most rural of all the states, with farms covering 90% of the state. The 64-page North Dakota Atlas & Gazetteer contains full-color, shaded-relief topographic maps of the entire state. These maps highlight its national parks and monuments, as well as the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the "On-a-Slant" Indian Village in the Ft. Abraham Lincoln State Park. The Gazetteer section is an extensive directory of interesting attractions and places to visit, such as: · National and state lands · Hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing areas · Attractions and casinos · Unique natural features · Downhill ski areas and campgrounds · Comprehensive list of Native American tribal lands · Details about popular historic sites · Trails for hikers, bikers or snowmobilers The Atlas features extensive road detail, including detailed highway and secondary state routes, thousands of named local roads, as well as rail lines and trails. Remote rivers, streams and creeks, complete with potential fishing areas indicated right on the maps, are also included. The maps are presented at a scale of 1:200,000, which translates to approximately one inch equaling 3.2 miles. These shaded-relief maps depict the terrain in a realistic, three-dimensional view, with each page covering an area approximately 44 miles high by 33.1 miles wide. The contour interval is 120 feet. A grid system along the margins of each map indicates latitude and longitude coordinates, enabling use of the Atlas with Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.
