Summary: good research, pretty comprehensive
Review: This book has many more entries than "Eat your way across the USA", which is the other publication I use for finding good local eateries. Therefore this has more clunkers and more jems, and less descriptive detail. A must have if you travel much!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It stays in our car for frequent use.
Review: This book makes cross country back road traveling even more fun. Sure there are a few problems, but most fair-sized towns have entires, and many small towns do. We have had wonderful fun and some interesting, to say the least, meals because of it. Well worth its price.

Summary: Sky Magazine Review (Delta Airlines)
Review: This isn't a paperback book you'll curl up with on a long winter's night, but you may be tempted to drag it all over the United States with you

Summary: Along with my atlas, this goes with me everywhere!
Review: We travel frequently. On our recent Florida excursion, we found the listings in Where the Locals eat extremely helpful. Since that trip we have bought copies for several of our friends, who report that it is as useful to us as it is to them. I'll never have to settle for fast food on the road again just because I want something I can trust. There are very few places I've been that Where the Locals Eat doesn't cover. Anyone who travels a lot, especially by automobile, should have this book next to the atlas, the cassette tapes and the band-aids! I can no longer imagine traveling anywhere without this book. Recently on one of the rec.travel newsgroups there was a thread concerning the search for the best German restaurants in Milwaukee. Of the four whose names consistently came up in the discussion, three were listed in Where the Locals Eat under Best German Food. I haven't missed yet by following the recommendations in this book. And it's not just expensive or specialty food either. A hamburger in Tallahassee, seafood in Savannah, barbecue in Birmingham, you name it, it's in there. And it fits neatly in my briefcase too!

Summary: We've had good experience
Review: We've used this book four times, and have been pleasantly surprised each time (Carson City NV, Winnemucca NV, someplace or other in UT, and San Francisco).
