Summary: Keeps Me Thinking for Weeks After Reading
Review: I have traveled myself around-the-world, and to over 85 countries, in addition to living overseas for 10 years. I wish I could have read Brad's book BEFORE traveling, and I would have used some of his ideas in talking to people. But whether you are a world traveler, or never travel anywhere, he has such interesting conversations and insights. Reading this book could change your life. Now that I've finished it, I plan to re-read it again very soon, as well as choose it in my bookclub next time my turn comes around. One of the best books I've ever read. I just can't stop thinking about it.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: I haven't read a book this engrossing since I finished the James Herriot series 10 years ago! Like Herriot, Newsham humbly shares the people he met, elevating them with great respect and human dignity along the way. I simply HATED to reach the end, but was compelled to read "just this next chapter" until the journey finally ended. Brad so deftly describes the exact emotions one feels while traveling. I found myself aching to pack a bag myself and hop on a plane to places I never knew I wanted to go.

As I read about each person he met, I found myself wishing that "this one" will be the person Brad invites, each one for their own reasons. I even wished for people who didn't make it on his list! By the end of the book, however, I was thoroughly convinced that it didn't really matter if anyone was left out, because I had such appreciation for the world they already lived in. This book really moved me. It was so refreshing to travel with such a humble, appreciative guy like Brad Newsham. I hope someday when I am in San Francisco to find myself in the back of his cab (if he's still driving), and ask HIM "what is the best thing that ever happened to you?"

I have recommended this book to everyone I've talked to, and am sending it to my mother, who recently told me, "Sometimes a good book is almost as good as a vacation." This is one book that definitely is.

Summary: Needs An Editor!!
Review: I looked forward to this book because I thought it was a great gimmick--a guy goes to find someone to take home. I love the concept but the writing needs A LOT of work, and an editor!!

Summary: A great find!
Review: I loved this book! It was difficult for me to put it down and I kept my entire household updated throughout my read as to where Brad was traveling now. So many of my friends have joined me in expressing an interest in taking some time off from work and our daily routine to travel and see the world. I will pass this book on to them for inspiration. I'd recommend this to anyone with a love of adventure and travel. He really makes you want to drop everything and head out the door...

Summary: Well Written
Review: I must disagree with the few reviews that state this book is poorly written. I found the writing style very clear and captivating. Perhaps these comments originate from some kind of snobbery towards taxi drivers !!

I can't put my finger on exactly why, however I am slightly uncomfortable with the concept of the book. Having said this, I found the book to be one of the more enjoyable travel books I have read.

Summary: Loved this book!
Review: I purchased this book just before I left on a long vacation. It was a wonderful companion. While I was safely sitting poolside, I could read about Brad's wonderful adventures throughout the world. I am looking forward to the next addition! Thank you, Brad!

Summary: a great book
Review: I read Brad at a chapter or two a day. This made me feel like I was taking the trip with him. These are places I'll probably never go, but his descriptions make me feel like I was there. Very, very good.

Summary: Very good
Review: I read through most of the customer reviews and feel the need to add mine to this list because there seems to be such mixed opinions regarding the quality of the author's writing. I've read many, many travel books, and this one comes close to being my favorite. Only Bill Bryson's name goes before Brad Newsham's on my list of favorite travel writers. I read the softbound edition and found no errors, so perhaps the continual references to editing problems were cleared up with the publication of the softbound edition. He really can evoke the feeling of being right there with him on his journey. I've only been to one of the countries he chose to go to; Kenya, and I must admit he did a much better job than I did of truly seeing the country. And he does tell you who he invited home (again something that might be missing in the hardbound first edition) but it took several years for him to make this happen so again a good reason to skip the hardbound version and get the soft cover instead.
