Rating: 1 stars
Summary: not enough detail to make anyone's trip easier
Review: Innacurate maps, poor accomodation listings and a lack of any addresses or directions makes this guide a nightmare. We threw it away a week into our trip!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Maybe the Authors Tried Too Hard
Review: This is an impressive book in the following way - it is 900 pages long and has many details. The people that write these must be tired!! It is a bit dry so I give it three stars.

Having said that here is what is wrong.
- not many photos, just a few groups of photos
- many maps (200?) but they are small or coarse
- not much on finding a place to stay

It is what I would call a formula book that relies on text. The authors have come up with a list of features that they think are important for each city, town, and village such as the history, eating and drinking, what is around the town, old town, special buildings, telephones, trains, etc. Then they methodically go around the four contries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Findland) filling in the blanks about each town by region with a back of the book alphabetical index. So each town has a description. It is impossible to get all the information into one book and to keep it current.

Having said that it is a very good secondary source if you want a quick history review or to know something about a special building. But you will still need other maps, etc. In any case I found my hotels on the internet and bought an Eyewitness Travel book for their color photos.
