Rating: Summary: Full of great information! Review: I am really enjoying this book a lot (and so is my dog, of course). I have lived here for years but had no idea that I could take my dog to so many different places in the area--and I didn't know that some great places even existed, like a dog bakery (which we have already visited!). With summer approaching, I am looking forward to taking day trips to places that not only will be interesting and fun for me but will also enable me to give my dog some exercise in a new place. I also think that it is very helpful to know which hotels allow dogs to stay, in case I want to make it a longer visit, and the appendices are full of things I didn't know about--like dog resorts, which I know my dog will be eager to try! It's obvious that a huge amount of research went into this book, and I think the author did a great job. And my dog wants to know how she ever lived without it!
Rating: Summary: Great book and resource! Review: I found this book to be very helpful and full of useful information, as have several friends that also purchased the book. Through it, I have learned about many dog-related events that I never knew existed in the Philadelphia area, and I have also found it very helpful that the book indicates which restaurants are willing to provide water and special treats for my dogs. All in all, the comprehensive listing of dog-welcoming events, stores, restaurants, parks and places in different areas and neighborhoods of Philadelphia is exactly what I was looking for. My dogs and I are enjoying it very much!
Rating: Summary: Packed with information Review: I have this book and I found it very informative. Full of places to take your pets; but it also provides information you might like to know for your human companions as well. It covers many counties over a wide geographical area. I was happy to see all the events that are dog friendly through the seasons from spring fetes, summer festivals, Halloween parties and meeting Santa. This is a wonderful resource tool for those of us who like to believe our dogs are part of the family.
Rating: Summary: Packed with information Review: I have this book and really enjoyed it. It's full of information on where you can take your pets. It's also useful if you have some human companions as well. I was happy to see that it covered dog friendly events year round; from spring fetes, to summer festivals, and halloween activites to meeting Santa and finding Christmas trees. It's the perfect resource for those of us who like to treat our pets as part of the family
Rating: Summary: Not Just For The Dogs Review: I read the book this weekend and what a wonderful experience! It's well written, well researched and great source of activities and places to go not only for dog owners/lovers but for families too.
Rating: Summary: Philly Dogs Have More Fun Review: I thought the book was very thoroughly researched, well organized, and helpful to folks who don't even have dogs, but just like to get out and do things. I have lived in the greater Philadelphia area for twenty years and I learned things in this book that I didn't even know about. My dogs, Bud & Gus, would like to thank Ms. Armen for a job well done. They're looking forward to future outings to new and interesting places where they can mingle with fellow canine friends and feel welcome.
Rating: Summary: Not really focused on dogs Review: I was very disappointed with this book. I am moving to Philly and was hoping to find some useful information on dog friendly parks, services, neighborhoods, etc... This was just a collection of places and restaurants in the Philadelphia area, but not with an emphasis on dogs. Restaurants were listed, but it wasn't clear how they related to doing things with your dog, i.e. whether you can sit outside w/your dog, or if there is an convenient place to tie them up. Additionally, it was just a list without any ratings on the quality of the activities. For me, it was not worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Philly Dogs Are Lucky Indeed Review: Ms. Armen has written an extraordinarily helpful book. Never before have Philly dog owners and dog lovers had guidance about where they could take their four legged friends. I have lived in the Philadelphia area for 12 years and I was unaware of most of attractions Ms. Armen located. Her book explains in detail where you can take your dog and how the dog will be treated there (dog biscuits, water etc.) I highly recommend this book for dog owners, but also for the Philadelphian who wants new entertainment. This book certainly identifies fun for the entire family.
Rating: Summary: So Many Things to Do... Review: Philly Dogs have More Fun is a comprehensive source of local attraction information for the dog and it's owner. The book is organized intelligently by region - giving travelers an easy way to lessen the scope of their search for fun and dog-friendly places to visit.Armen is careful to specify in what capacity dogs are received at each of the many parks, cafes, museums and other attractions. It is doubtful that even Philadelphians are aware of just how many attractions there are in their area. The open and personable approach to the subject has me ready to explore both on and off the beaten paths of Philly. Perhaps the only area of improvement would be in the index which could have been more detailed.
