If you're a fast food eater, than this will probably be a good guide for you. However, if you're looking for a calorie counter for basic foods...this is not your guide. The rest of the foods are broken down according to calories, fat, and carbs. That's it. There are very small sections devoted to protein, salt, fiber, etc. counters, but these don't even begin to cover the range of basic foods we all probably eat on a daily basis.In short, handy to have for carb counting and fast food evaluating. Otherwise...save yourself the $.

Different types of information are presented for different types of foods. Space is wasted on a rehash of basic nutritional concepts that everyone already knows (food pyramid, calcium is good for you, etc.).

Review: This book is the best of its kind I've seen. It has calorie, fat, and carb counts for every kind of food imaginable. Great that it's updated every year. And it has complete nutritional data listings for items from 101 fast-food/restaurant menus, which is a big help for us folks who eat on-the-run but want to stick with a healthy diet. I have a friend whose son is diabetic, and they use it all the time to keep track of his carbohydrate intake. The book's small size makes it convenient to carry along everywhere. Don't know how I've been getting along without it. My only problem with the book is that people keep "borrowing" it!

Review: This book is very informative, I expected to get all the basic calorie information but I did not expect to get the helpful weight control and loss guidelines. Oddly enough, the guidelines in the book are exactly what my doctor told me. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

It is the most comprehensive counter available and i look forward to the 2002 edition. I don't count carbs or eat fast-foods so i find it amazing reading some of the reviews here.(perhaps these people would be better off carrying around a large hard copy, complete book of food counts so they can find what there looking for) This is a pocket sized book which can be kept in your pocket it has the most comprehensive and uptodate listings and i can easily find most foods. I don't know what some of these reviewers eat but very rarely do i find a food that is not listed.
