Rating: Summary: awe inspiring tale of true survival Review: I am also a sailor and read the book the first time 10 yrs ago. Since then I have re-read it at least 5 times. With each reading I am still learning new things to possibly help me if I'm ever in a similar situation. I have recently been in touch with Mr. Callahan and will purchase the hard copy version and send to him to be signed. A letter from him remains framed in my business office. I have purchased several copies of the paperback version and given them away as gifts to friends and family. Several of these people also purchased copies for their friends and other family members. I always tell anyone interested in boating that if they EVER INTEND to venture far enough from shore into the ocean that they lose sight of land that this book is NECESSARY reading.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, entertaining reading !!!!! Review: I bought this book, but couldn't read it until a week later because my kids (ages 12, 16 and 18) got to it first and found it so good they wouldn't put it down. We all agreed that it was one of the hardest books to put down that any of us had read.
Rating: Summary: Adrift : Seventy Six Days Lost at Sea Review: I didnt like the way it was written,it was very boring and very repatative.
Rating: Summary: Amazing and frightening! Review: I enoyed this book immensely. Callahan gave very poetic descriptions of what was happening. I sympathized with him for having to survive on his only friends, the dorados. I was amazed at his will to live and ability to overcome, with his wit, the failed equipment in the raft. I appreciated his drawings so I could better understand the state of things. To be alone on the ocean in a small raft is frightening in itself, without mentioning all the problems Callahan encountered.

Rating: Summary: His tremendous experience is well-relayed in this book. Review: I first learned of Steve when I saw him interviewed on Oprah's show. During the interview I was amazed at what all he went thru for those 2+ months at sea, so I ran down this book and became totally engrossed in it. A remarkably ingenious man, I marveled at how he taught himself to fish (without the aid of any tools to do so!) and was amazed when he repaired his leaking raft (again with no tools!) and was able to keep floating. Even though I have no boating experience, it was one of the best readings I've ever sat down to. It gives one a peek into the mind of a truely courageous and inventive person, as well as enlightening you with all sorts of novel fixes for the mountain of problems he overcame in order to live
Rating: Summary: An incredible inspiration! Review: I first read Adrift 8-9 years ago, and was awestruck by the determination, courage, physical, and mental strength that Callahan displayed. I have read it probably four or five more times since that first read, and I finish the book every time with a feeling that I can accomplish anything I really set out to do. I think the message in Adrift speaks volumes. An incredible book
Rating: Summary: Riveting and astounding story Review: I found this book at a flea market several years ago and didn't expect much. I soon found myself mesmerized by the ingenuity Callaghan used to survive such appalling circumstances. I couldn't put the book down, and have never forgotten it.
Rating: Summary: well beyond what any of us will every have to endure Review: I had the pleasure of becoming friends with Stevens parents, Ed & Doris Calahan, which is the reason I read the book. Reading this book, has made me a much safer boater. Every time I set out, I think about Stevans chiling reconstruction of his amazing survival. How anyone could have the strenth to survive the intense hardship and complete hopelessness of being totally alone for so long is a true testiment to his strong character. A riviting, must read for boaters and anyone who likes a superb, edge of your seat story.Hats off to you Stevan, say Hi to your parnets for me. Ken Woodman
Rating: Summary: You think you've got problems... Review: I read this book at the recommendation of my father. I had broken my leg and was immobile and alone on the 2nd floor of a house in Charleston, SC. I couldn't put his book down until I had finished it. Callahan's account of his daunting, aimless attempt to reach land alive will make anyone appreciate what they have and that they don't know the meaning of desperation, uncertainty, hopelessness and perseverance. I felt lucky to only have a broken leg once I finished this book. I highly recommend it.
