Rating: Summary: Judge not-Least you be judged. Review: I find it interesting that one review from an HCPolice officer was critical about Ms. Spillane claiming to have evidence to Ken Registers innocense and why she does't bring it forward, a police officer of all people should know that is done in a court of law. That is where it counts! I have met Mr. Hudson and I find it interesting that he went to the attorney generals office on behalf of Mr. Register to proclaim Register's innocence! Also if your readers think they are reading fact they are sadly being mislead. In the transcripts of the trail you would read that the state's own DNA expert Dr. Bruce Weir stated " this is astonishing, a nine probe match no one in the world has ever done that. The FBI lab has only matched a 5 or 6 probe match. He stated that he would have excluded Mr. Register as a suspect" Also why didn't Mr. Hudson talk about the teddy bear key chain that was found at Randy's house the first suspect the police picked up, the police claimed to have done DNA on this suspect within 5 days! I'm sure the FBI would like to know how they did that so fast. This book is pure FICTIOM, anyone that says its great and factual they are pure dilutional themselves.
Rating: Summary: Long Over Due! Review: First off I'd like to say that this was an excellent book, I'm on my second time reading it!The book is long over due, and maybe after reading this book people will better understand what really happen to Crystal Faye Todd and why Ken is behind bars right now! The police did a wonderful job, in fact everyone involved in this case was great!I'd also like to say something for Dale Hudson (one of the authors) I have known Dale for years, he is a great person! I use to work for him years ago, and if their is one thing I can say about him, that is HE IS HONEST he is not a person who would write lies about someone, or make up things to benefit himself if he didn't believe in this book and what he was writing he would have never wrote the book in the first place! He can back what he has written about! It upsets me that someone would even say this book was a lie! I understand a lot of people had their lives tore apart over Crystal's murder,(mainly her mother) but I think people need to stop defending Ken and face the truth, that he did do this and he is where in should be, they need to be thanking the good lord he didn't get the death sentence! As for Jane Spillane and her senseless review, I agree with the former County Police Officer! She needs help! She harps on the fact that Ken is innocent and that she has this and has that well you people are smart enough to know that if she had something Ken would be a free man today. I think she needs to back off of Dale and help someone who is really innocent! Most people who know her and this case all agree she really does want to be in the limelight and that is really what this is about with Jane Spillane! This is a awesome book!Thank you guys for writing it, Hey I know A good lawyer if you guys need one for Jane! Bratts8898@aol.com
Rating: Summary: A Well Written Account of a Terrible Crime Review: I found this book interesting from start to finish - probably because Ken Register hardly seemed the type to commit any sort of crime. The authors put all the facts together tho and made me understand that the young man was not all that he seemed. I would like to have seen a deeper probe into exactly why Register turned out the way he did, but I understand that would have been impossible for the authors to do. Their description of the frustration the law enforcers of that town faced was compelling enough to keep me turning pages. The cops worked hard and they got their man. Whatever in the world is bothering Ms. Spillane is beyond me.
Rating: Summary: An Hour To Kill; Worth Far More Time to Read Review: An Hour To Kill is an interesting, informative and easy to read book. The authors have taken the information about this tragedy, spliced it together, formed an opinion and created a book that is difficult to put down. The descriptions of the community and setting in this small town gave you a clear understanding of what and how this murder affected the people in Conway, South Carolina. The division in the community over Ken Registers guilt is documented and the evidence used by these people to proclaim his innocence is presented. However, the authors wisely draw there own conclusions based on the evidence. A super book. Worth your time and money.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ - VERY WELL WRITTEN BOOK! Review: I was very impressed on how well this story was written. The book seemed to come alive and feel as if you were actually experiencing the pain and fear that this woman and the entire town felt. I had so many emotions flowing through me as I was reading. It will make you laugh, cry and get angry. The author did a wonderful job of recreating the events before, during and after the crime and trial. This book represented each side of the case equally and it was nice to see that there was no bashing of any one person; even the killer. It reads like a novel and there was no time that I felt myself wandering but had to force myself to put it down. Pick it up and read for yourself and decide!
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding - Couldn't put it Down! Review: An Hour to Kill has to rank as one of my favorite true crime books. It is extremely well written, and the pace of the book is superb. The book carries the reader along, urging one to continue reading as the story unfolds in a tantalizing fashion until the finally the reader finishes, exhausted from the intensity of the true story.Dale Hudson & Billy Hills manage to tell a story that is detailed, but not boring and reads much like a novel. I felt that I had gotten to know the victim and her family as well as the family of the perpetrator. The authors use detail about the area in which the crime occurred to supplement and enhance the story and the photo section also helps the reader to "get to know" the players. My one criticism is that I wish the book were longer! I wanted my reading experience to continue! Very enjoyable, and a remarkable first effort from the two authors.
Rating: Summary: A breath of fresh air for those who love true crime Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading An Hour To Kill! It had me so engrossed in the story that I literally could not put it down. The book is full of evidence and factual information, yet it reads easily, much like a novel. Beautifully written, it appealed to my senses so that I could reconstruct the entire sequence of events in living color. The story was brought to life with vivid imagery and carefully researched detail. Whether one is familiar with this case or not, this book is a must-read!

Rating: Summary: TEN THUMBS UP.....This Book is Outstanding Review: This book is excellently written. It keeps the readers attention throughout each chapter. The narrative discription of the area, characters, and the terrible murder will keep your mind wanting to read on and on. I have purchased several copies of this book for gifts. I am sure my friends will love it just as I have.
Rating: Summary: An Hour to Kill is a must-read! Review: An Hour to Kill: Love, Murder and Justice in a Small Town, by Dale Hudson and Billy Hills is a must-read for true crime fans. The murder of South Carolina teen, Crystal Faye Todd, in 1991 is a gruesome tale. Authors, Hudson and Hills, are brilliant in the research and telling of this true story which shocked the small community of Conway, S.C. I could not put this book down! The reader can just see the characters and images of the rural South in fact, the book just drips with the South; the authors use just the right amount of dialogue and dialect. The case drew so much attention, with accusations flying from family members of both the victim and the defendant, that author Mickey Spillane and his wife, took up aggressive involvement for the defendant. Sally Jesse Raphael did a show on the murder case. DNA evidence was the scientific highlight of the trial. Definitely, a page-turner, the reader is taken into the lives of regular Southern folks and immersed in an intriguing, heartbreaking story, with some bizzare twists and turns. I put this book in the same class with true crime writers Ann Rule and Jack Olsen.
