Summary: Fast read. I couldn't put it down.
Review: And to think that I thought I knew everything about traveling. I may know about travleing, but there was a lot I needed to learn about traveling with others. This book is a rare find and should be in every travelers suitcase.

Summary: Why I wrote this book.
Review: As a travel consultant for over 25 years, I've heard hundreds of people talk about their great times. But I've also heard about the frustrations, anxieties and disappointments when good friends turned out to be incompatible travelers and ended up friends no longer, when the kids spent the entire road trip flighting in the back seat or when the romantic getaway with a boyfirend or girlfriend ended in the breakup of the realtionship. Traveling with companions, even the ones you love, can be hazardous to your realtionships, particularly if you are different types of travelers. While there are numerous guide books to steer you away from the wrong hotel, restaurant or antique shop, there was no guide book to steer people away from the common pitfalls in their relationships with travel companions. Travel with Others without Wishing They'd Stayed Home is a survival guide to traveling with your spouse, lover, boss, friends, kids, grandkids, someone else's kids, parents, in-laws relatives, your pet and yourself. It identifies the nine different types of travelers from the "adventurer" to the "comfort seeker", from the "shopper" to "beach bum" and shows you ways to accommodate each other so neither of you feels frustrated or deprived. There's a multiple choice quiz in the introduction to help you recognize what type of traveler you are and what type of traveler your companions are. Understanding your differences is the key to successful trip planning. Travel with Others offers you ideas on how to anticipate and resolve potential conflicts that arise when travelers with different expectations end up on the road together. You'll find tips for all kinds of situations from the do's and don'ts of traveling with the boss, to checklists when traveling with someone else's kids. I hope you will enjoy the book and I hope it will help you travel with others without wishing they'd stayed home.

Review: Attention travelers-to-be: help yourselves now! But haven't you? After all, you've made the reseveations, found a kennel for the furry child, bought everything that can possibly come in mini-size, squeezed an extra day off out of the boss, and, of course, have decided who has been chosen to travel with you. What could you have possibly failed to consider? Sadly, the obvious. It's your travel compaion(s). Have you really considered the pros and cons of traveling with that special person(s)? Probably not. Summary: A new and needed genre: travel psychology!
Review: Author Davidson has launched a new and needed genre: travel psychology! With more and more people visiting far-off lands, this book is right on target. Understanding your travel chemistry with family and friends before boarding that plane is as essential as getting shots and packing sunscreen. This book showed me how.

Summary: A Book for Travelers and Their Companions
Review: Can traveling really be hazardous to relationships? Are there people you would never travel with or dread traveling with on vacations? Then this book might present a few creative solutions.

Nadine Nardi Davidson has spent 27 years as a travel consultant and in this time she has assisted many travelers from age 9 to 90. In this book she finally shares all her travel insights and secret tips for staying sane while traveling.

In this entertaining book you will discover:

The Nine Travel Types (You might find you are a little of each, but one will be dominant and it does seem that "shopper" and "culturist" seemed familiar.) Nadine mentions that you might be a combination of travel types.

Travel Etiquette when Traveling with your Employer or Business Colleagues

How to Survive Traveling with Your Friends, Spouse, Pet, Relatives, In-Laws and Kids

The Honeymoon (If there is a hurricane on the way in, leave no matter what your husband says. Ha, ha. )

What to do when your teenager falls in love while you are on vacation

What to do when you take your child's friend along on your vacation

Nadine's writing style is comforting, often humorous and always a pleasure to read. This is one of the most interesting books on travel I've read to date. There are concepts in this book I would never have even considered. On my last trip I used her idea about limiting my wardrobe to one or two basic colors. That would be black clothes as a basic and therefore all shoes could be black too, etc. Nadine is right about packing toiletries. They can truly take longer to pack than your clothes.

Throughout the book you will find real-life stories that are often humorous and always entertaining. This is an insiders view of travel and this book is filled with practical advice.

You will also find travel checklists, information on special airline meals, making a traveler's medical kit and packing tips for trips of 7-21 days. May I also suggest: Smart Packing by Susan Foster.

Whether you are traveling to visit family for the holidays or traveling overseas, this book is an essential guide to enjoying your next vacation or business trip.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Despite the excellent premise, this was a disappointment. The author completely ignores topics like traveling as a interracial couple, gay & lesbian travelers, mixed straight and gay groups, inter-faith groups, etc. Her "golf-resort" focus also excludes backpackers, youth hostel etiquette, or Third World travel. Some good tips on traveling with pets, but otherwise rather shallow.

Summary: A fun read with a lot of practical tips
Review: I have traveled most of my life and lived in a number of countries outside the US - there are some things you can only appreciate with experience, and Ms. Davidson definitely delivers both practical tips and a sense of humor. Many books put out there are just dry how-to, but she mixes what sound like real life horror stories (and some happy endings too) with both practical advice and her 9 travel types. We had a lot of fun discovering why we don't always get along - and what to do to bridge that! I have suggested this book to all my friends (and relatives.) She's created something innovative and clever that's still accessible to everyone. I think the best part is that you really have to have a sense of openness and humor when it comes to travel or it will be you who ends up left at home!

Summary: Read this book before your next trip!
Review: I only wish I had read this before that ill-fated trip with my in-laws. I could have saved myself thousands in therapy. Oh well! But seriously, this book makes so much sense. Great tips for traveling with others. It facilitates communication between travel partners that may or may not have the same expectations for a trip. I found myself chuckling all the way through the book as I recognized myself and many of my friends and family in this well-written, fast-paced travel primer.

Summary: Our best trip yet!
Review: I'm glad both my husband and I read this book BEFORE our trip. He finally agreed to do some of the things I like to do on our trip--like going to museums without complaining. This book helped him see the light--that the trip will go a lot smoother and it really isn's so hard to allow time for each other's favorite activities when we are on vacation.

Summary: Don't travel until you read this book!
Review: In an age wherein traveling has become more the norm rather than the exception, we have never really looked closely as a society upon the "etiquette" of traveling. Nadine makes good headway into this new study. This book and it's context is so valuable I would like to see it expanded upon. I could even see it as a newspaper weekly with readers writing in "Dear Nadine I will be traveling... what should I do? Nadine handles the subjects she deals with not only with respect but also with humor, making it for a very enjoyable and easy reading book. The book is also written so that it can be referred to as various traveling questions come up. I urge Nadine to write a sequel.
