Summary: Take the kids to London...survive and enjoy!
Review: A great layout and reference guide, user-friendly, something you will want to carry with you as you travel London daily with the kids. The maps and sections are divided making it simple and easy to follow. A must for the first time traveler to London with kids.!

Summary: Take the Kids London
Review: A wonderful and comprehensive book on taking kids to London. It not only highlights places kids want to see, but suggests ways to make "adult-like" places a delight for kids. Good information on hotels for families, restaurants and getting around London.

Summary: One of the best guides you will find!
Review: Extremely well written, clear and informative. Having recently returned from London, I warmly recommend this book, as others have done here. Five stars!!!

Summary: Take the kids: innappropriate places in London!!!
Review: Having just returned from London w/an 11 year old and an 8 year old, who both encouraged me to write a review as soon as we got home here goes: this book, while, laid out well, was full of misinformation! Twice we went to recommended restaurants only to find them not at all child friendly...none of the promised dot-to-dot menues, instead cigarette smoking adults and loud music. The Mechanical Toy museum has moved...a huge disappointment, having been there before. Segaworld is no longer Segaworld, it's something else and it's nothing more than a big arcade with half the games in disrepair. Having also visited Disneyquest, we can tell you that there isn't any comparison. Funland, the new name for Segaworld, shouldn't make it in a guide book anywhere! The information on getting in and out of the city could have been much more specific, in particular to and from Gatwick. Also, Legoland's information was not as accurate as it could have been. It's a fabulous place mostly for younger children. Planet Harrods is a cafeteria, and also not someplace we'd encourage...The London Eye is not to be missed, and you must get tickets in advance. (Not mentioned in the book.)In short, if you buy this book, buy others, you'll need them for the truth.

Summary: Take the kids: innappropriate places in London!!!
Review: Having JUST returned from London with our nine year old, I can safely say that this one book was CRITICAL in our great enjoyment of the trip (AND THE TRIP WAS GREAT!) You will spend no better money in preparation than buying this book. The tactical perspective offered was essential in determining on what to spend our limited time, and even more limited budget. This book excels in the providing of details necessary to make your trip work... web sites, phone numbers, addresses and expenses, along with the most accurate description of the tourist sites anywhere. And, it was by far the most timely and accurate of the books we referenced. Of the 4 books we took, we never found a SINGLE error in its provided info. As a contrast, EVERY other book got something as simple and critical as the Heathrow-Paddington train fare (and whether kids were free) wrong. The book is written in a way that will allow your kids to help in planning activities... it is that kid oriented and detailed. Of the books we took with us, this is the ONLY one we referenced on a daily (actually almost hourly) basis. The best of the lot... DO NOT GO TO LONDON WITH CHILDREN WITHOUT THIS BOOK! Do also consider "London for Families" (Interlink - Lain) for its unique and valuable perspective on strategies for planning your trip. These books are different, and both are essential. Outside of a detailed London map and these two books, you will need nothing else, except lots of money and an umbrella.

Summary: inaccurate-
Review: I found this book to be full of errors- I went to two recommended eataries- both were out of business. Also book reported changing of the guard occurs every day in August- guess what? It does not! Does not seem that very careful fact checking went into this book.

Review: I read the reviews on this book and thought that it was perfect. I figured the complaints raised would be addressed in the new edition. So I went to my local bookstore to check it out. The book seems popular because it was hard to find a copy; however, when I did I find a copy I was very disappointed. This is a brand new edition but they reference sites and restaurants that are no longer in existence. For example, try to find the Chicago rib shack. According to the web this place no longer exists and is now a Japanese restaurant. If you need further proof, go to the index and look up Syon Park. The book says pg. 183-4 yet nothing is there. I did find the Syon Park info on pg. 181 but then what's the point of the index??? At this point I threw the book down in disgust and walked out. I'm still trying to figure out what they put into the 2nd Ed????

I subsequently picked up "Fodor's Around London with Kids" which has been useful in planning my trip.

Summary: Don't Believe Restaurant Reviews
Review: Some good information, and a good source for telephone numbers and things to do that you might not see suggested in other books. You do get the feeling that the author actually lives in London, and he has a good feel for what kids might enjoy and what they will probably find boring, (but that their parents think they should take them to). The second edition was better organized and more accurate than the first.

The restaurant suggestions, however, as another reviewer mentioned, are not accurate. "Kid Friendly" they are not. We went to a restaurant, described in the book as having a menu of "fish fingers, burgers, etc.". We arrived to find not a fish finger in sight. I showed the book to restaurant manager who laughed, and said these, guys never come here, they call up and say "Do you feed kids?" - If we say yes they put down kid friendly. ... London is expensive, and this book won't save you any money.

All that aside, I guess I would recommend this book as a source of things to do, but take the restaurant and hotel reviews with a grain of salt.
