Summary: this was an amazing tale well-told
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. My dear friend, Jake Gyllenhaal, played the part of Homer Hickam, Jr. in the movie October Sky. The script was slightly different than the book. So while I enjoyed watching the movie and congratulate all who took part in the making of it, I do believe that there is nothing like the real thing. This simple story of a teenager's life was so involving. Okay, thats it. Ciao.

Review: The book was excellent. The characters are fully developed, and I felt like I knew them. It was a great story of boys who start with nothing and achieve great things. It was inspiring! It made me want to go to the library and learn stuff on my own. I recommend it.

Summary: One of the best books I've read in ages
Review: You know when you read a book that at first you don't hold out any hopes for, but which turns out to be brilliant? Well this one is like that. I hadn't heard much about it and bought it on a whim that I later regretted as it sat on the shelf, unread. However, once I started it I just couldn't put it down. An absolutely marvellous book that I found both amusing and moving in turn. Excellent!!!

Summary: Excellent, Excellent!
Review: As a product of the West Virginia coal country, this book hit me right between the eyes with its sentimental, yet unflinching, look at life in a coal company town. Sadly, at least two generations of kids have been raised in West Virginia with one aim - getting out. It is such a beautiful place, full of wonderful people, and Homer Hickham captures it perfectly. He made me miss it, in spite of all its faults. Wonderful book!

Summary: Super Book, Bad Movie
Review: This was such a great book. I enjoyed the courage, character, and tenacity the book protrayed. Now, with that said, the movie was horrible. The parts of the book that were my favorites were either skipped over, watered down, or changed competely. I can understand why the review who is two below me would have taken a while to put the book and the movie together. They're different stories! I have to disagree with his last sentance. Please don't see the movie. Read the book.

Review: I really think that Rocket Boys is an excellent book! It really shows that hard work and determination pays off. Dreams of children can really become reality. This is a GREAT book! A must read!

Summary: Extreamly Inspiring
Review: I read the book because alot of my friends said that it was the best book that they have ever read. A few months after I read it the movie came out. I did not think that "October Sky" was the same thing as "Rocket Boys". So I went to see it on a date with my girlfriend. I kept saying all the way through the movie that this was like the book that I had read. I couldn't believe it. I would advise this book to anyone young or old. The "Rocket Boys" is the best book on the planet. Please go see the movie or read the book!!!!!!

Review: Just like young Homer did, I too dream of working at NASA or somewhere dealing with space. This book only hardened my resolve to accomplish this. I felt tingly and warm sensations after finishing this book. It was simply inspiring to me.

Summary: The book and movie were a 3 stage blast
Review: Growing up in the New York countryside in the 60s, I built model airplanes and rockets. Homer Hickam's account of his youth recaptured in my memory those past days and made me long for that period as a student of science when more failures occurred than success. Rarely did we expect to receive any public acclaim, more the case we were chased home everytime something went awry. But I continued.Homer, thank you for restoring my memory and for reminding me that the power of youth is the ability to believe anything is possible, something we appear to lose as adults. Prodigious Homer, prodigious.
