Review: Before I knew this book existed, I saw the movie and loved it. Consequently I read the book, only to find it was ten times better! I can honestly say I didn't know about any of this stuff, and was thrilled to learn about it. I think that Homer Hickam's childhood was extremely incredible and unique, and he is a very lucky and incredible person to have done what he did. For anyone who can read, read this book!

Review: I read this book first of all, being the kid of a miner who worked in Coalwood in the 1950's, but it was much more than just a look at my roots. I have teenage sons and they love rocketry and all forms of space and aviation sciences. Mr. Hickam is a new hero in our home and the book just made us feel like we were right there builing and launching rockets..failures and triumphs, with the Rocket Boys.It is a story of determination, of relationships, and most of all of hope. a great lesson taught by mr. Hickam, and especially inspiring to todays youth..you truly can do anything that you want to, and failures teach us success in the long run. a BIG thank you to Homer Hickam!

Summary: Outstanding and inspiring story
Review: As a school board member living 75 miles from Columbine High, I have been pondering the role of the media in the lives of youth today. This book and movie (I saw the movie first) are a great antidote and contrast to todays popular fare. It is sobering to realize that we have to go back over 40 years to find a story like this. The recreation of Coalwood was so vivid in the book that I could almost taste the coal dust. I rarely get this excited about a book or a movie, but this one is just wonderful.
