Review: This boook will make you laugh,and cry and you will never loose interest in it. When I began to read I couldn't lay it down. I think that Homer did a great job. He also is proof that I a McDowell Countian can go anywhere in life if I work hard and set my mind to it!!

Review: As a decendent of a Big Creek H.S. Graduate (my mother is mentioned in the book) and of the Coal Mining Industry, I visited Coalwood as a young girl. This story is inspiring and rekindles my fond memories of a now very depressed area of W.V. Excellent Reading!

Summary: THANKS FOR THE (GREAT) MEMORIES
Review: This is a very real look at the coal mining industry of southern West Virginia. I too am from the same county as Sonny Hickman and totally enjoyed the experience he has taken me back too. I am the son of an assistant mine foreman, who also moved the family out of the mining towns to central Florida in the early 70's. My father died also of the coal dust disease that is called black lung and only those who have experienced it can relate to it, the frequent coughs and needs to stop to catch that ever evading full-lung breath of air. Sonny, you did a great job. Thanks for making me proud to say that I am from the coal mining country of southern West Virginia.Congratulations on your successes and your ability to stay connected to home. Your mother more than understands the need to get out, the ability to see a world beyond the coal fields, and I know that you are proud that she made a way for you to work above ground and never underground. A special thanks to those who did and continue to work in the coal mining industry, we may never have had some of the things we enjoy today without your willingness to do your job.
