Summary: greatest memoir ever
Review: i had to read Rocket Boys for my honors english class this year. i'm a freshmen in high school and i hate reading those kinds of books usually. but this time i liked it. Rocket Boys starts off a little slow, but believe me, when you get a few chapters into it, its a great book. it gets better and better, but i'm not going to say all that much and summarize so you can read it for yourself. i think this is the best memoir (or biography or autobiography) that i've read. and the best part is that sonny (homer h. hickam, jr.) is coming to visit my school later this year in may and i really want to meet him.

Summary: Fabulous piece of work
Review: I started this book on a Monday and put my life on hold until the next day to finish it only taking a break to sleep. I couldn't put it down. I can not wait to get his other books and read them. I hope to take a trip to Coalwood in October and meet this man. Just an awesome story!

Summary: A life changing book
Review: I read this book in 2000 and loved it. I liked it so much I went to Coalwood to see last summer where it actualy took place. This book will stay with me for the rest of my life!! I have talked to Mr. Hickam and he knows all about my trip to Coalwood and loves the fact that the book has changed my life. If you want a great book about life the 50s then read it. If you like to read a great story line with lots of bumbs in it then read it!! I can say that if you do not read it you will not like it.

Summary: The Best Book I Have Ever Read
Review: October Sky is a moving novel about life in a coal town in the 50s. Detailing everything from Sputnik to his first real kiss, Homer Hickam has put together an amazing memoir that brings to life the time when rock & roll was still young and dangerous. The finest literature I have ever read, it is a book that everyone should read.

Summary: The best book yet!
Review: I was excited to read that Rocket Boys also known as October Sky has been picked for Orlando/Orange County One City One Read program. I couldn't think of a better book to represent our community! This is a book that is loved by everybody. I think Homer Hickam's great sequels - The Coalwood Way and Sky of Stone should have been selected, too. I agree on the movie comments I've seen. It's good but the book is far better and a lot different.

Summary: A great book but please don't confuse it with that movie!
Review: Rocket Boys...is one of the best books I've ever read. It's being picked by many cities for its One Community, One Read programs. ...Sonny in the book (he's officially Homer, Jr. but his mother decided to give him a nickname). His dad's name is Homer (senior). ... There were also six boys...The book is a magnificent memoir novel in the same mold as To Kill a Mockingbird. ... I hope someday somebody will make a movie worthy of this wonderful book. His dedication, by the by, is to "Mom and Dad and the people of Coalwood," ...

Summary: From Mr. Burnette's class(i'm not under 13 shhhhhhhh)
Review: In Homer Hickam's October Sky, aka Rocketboys, four Coalwood boys from West Virginia are inspired by their country's determination to out-do the Russians in space. The main character, Homer, is the son of the mine superintendent, John Hickam. John and the rest of this small town are against Homer and his friends' desicion to build homemade rockets. However, the boys soon win Coalwood's heart, and win many science fairs. This book is dedicated to Miss Riley, the boys' physics teacher.
In my opinion, this book is very well written. Homer Hickam expressed great insight into his own childhood. Once I finished the book, I flipped it over and read it again. I just couldn't put it down(but I did hahahaha) Being at about the same age as Homer in this book, I could relate to his thoughts, actions, and feelings. This novel made me think about life in general. It gave me a new perspective on life. What a bunch of bull this is
