Summary: best book of the lot
Review: This was an absolutly fabulosy book, and hey, just because conrad is my uncle doesnt meen i have to say that! i know i was hoping he would be able to say mallory had climbed to the summit, but he couldnt and i think its great that he shares his oppinion that seem to be right. I feel that the writing in this book compaired to the others writen about the expidition was much better. And can you top a first hand account? i wouldnt say so. and im not the only one who liked it, so did new york times. that has to say something!

Summary: If you enjoy mountianeering adventure tales try this one
Review: This was an enjoyable book. Well written by both authors each with their own tale to tell. Dave Roberts told historical facts and Conrad Anker the actual discovery of Mallory.

Ankers depiction of the finding of Mallory was enticing and then the further explanation he thought or didn't think Mallory made it to the top of Mount Everest.

Roberts portrail of Mallory and his family was interesting.

The book is well worth a read.

Summary: A Compelling Story, But . . .
Review: While certainly having a compelling story to tell, this interesting book's writing style sometimes gets in the way. The alternating chapters technique (contemporaneous events rotated with Mallory's climb and disappearance)can be less than helpful. Also, the reader is presented with lines like this: "To pull this off, still without oxygen, the day after summiting, and not incur any frostbite himself, makes Slava's performance one of the most phenomenal I've ever seen in the mountains." One could do with a few less commas and contractions.

Nevertheless, it is a fascinating story with valuable insight. Well worth reading.
