Rating: Summary: Do Your Homework... Review: ...and you will have a much better time on your cruise. Pamela Kane's book is the Cliff Notes of cruise-travel books. Short, sweet, and very much to the point, it does cover everything you need to know. Did you know for example, that coffee is pretty bad on cruise ships? Pam's idea to bring along your mini Krups is quite excellent.
Rating: Summary: "Tight and bright!" Review: As a literary agent, I seldom offer encomiums to non-clients. I see all kinds of books in my trade, but it is the mark of a truly talented professional writer to deliver so much practical information in such a small package. Ms. Kane has chosen every word carefully, and they seem to leap off the page. My wife and I hope to take a cruise some day soon. I'm sure CRUISE CONTROL will help make our maiden voyage a trip to remember.
Rating: Summary: Never Taken a Cruise? READ THIS! Review: As a veteran of several cruises, I thought I pretty much knew it all when it came to packing, etc. I was wrong! This book really gave me some helpful hints for subsequent cruises (I had never had an inside cabin before my last cruise and I never would have thought to bring a nightlight - a good tip!) I have loaned out this much-worn book to several friends going on their first cruises and they said it was a God-send. My copy is losing pages and has several notations and highlighted areas now. This is good guide for both verteran cruisers and newbies.
Rating: Summary: Valuable & Entertaining Cruise Travel Tips and Tricks Review: As a wannabe cruiser, I found Cruise Control very informative. It includes the kind of insider information and tips that can make a trip, especially for first-timers, run more smoothly. The writing style is concise, witty and has the feel of a chat with a savvy older sister. When I eventually plan my first cruise, I'll definitely reread Cruise Control for guidance, and will suggest it to others planning a cruise, whether experienced or newbies.
Rating: Summary: Gone But Not Lost! Review: CRUISE CONTROL is now out of print! But that's OK, because Pam is back in an all new, updated and even funnier book HAPPY SAILS: THE CAREFREE CRUISER'S HANDBOOK. You'll want to have the latest updates for security, more fun facts and hilarious new stories!
Rating: Summary: Functional AND Fun! Review: Earlier this year, I cruised with Pam Kane from Costa Rica through the Panama Canal. Had she written this book before then, I sure could have saved time -- and space! The book is, as another reviewer noted, very tightly written. Reminds me of an excellent musical composition, where not one note is out of place, or unnecessary. This is one informative travel book that is fun to read, and I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: A must for new and veteran cruisers alike. Review: Even though I have been on more than two dozen cruises that have taken me to 5 continents I was able to learn many new tips and tricks from this book. The author covers every phase of cruising from what to pack, how to pack it and how to stow it to make best use of your cabin. She then covers the dining and wining and other shipboard activities. Also all shoreside activities, whether to take an organized tour or to freelance. All this is presented in a witty and breezy style.
Rating: Summary: Cruise Control is a Hit Review: For the first-time cruiser, this book could be considered a necessity. But I'm betting that even experienced cruisers would find some useful information here. One vital concern when booking a first cruise is "What kind of clothes will I need, and how can I pack it all in the allowable luggage?" With my own first cruise, Pam did her best to teach me these things via email. Once we were in our cabin, though, I had plowed through only about 2/3 of my belongings when I realized that Pam had not only unpacked and stowed all her gear, but had also freshened up a bit and was sitting on the balcony with her feet up enjoying a gin-and-tonic. Pam Kane's Cruise Control is *such* a neat book -- you can not only get one for yourself, but its price is just right for picking up as a gift for that special friend who is planning a special first cruise. She presents her "what to know before you go" information in a manner reminiscent of those famous household hints books written by Heloise. Pam answers questions you might never have thought to ask, and she does so succinctly and with delicious humor. I highly recommend Cruise Control - It's a perfect price, too, to buy one for you and one for that special friend who is planning a first-time cruise.
Rating: Summary: Cruise Questions Answered Review: How do you chill beer in your stateroom? What's the secret of the Giant Tote Bag? What do you do with the Waiter from Hell? How do you avoid being the Purser's New Best Friend? All the questions you never thought of, plus all the questions you did, presented in a breezy style guaranteed to make you feel like signing up for a cruise tomorrow. So funny you'll enjoy reading it whether or not you're planning a cruise, invaluable if you are. And hey, I just found out I don't really need that tux.
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful. Review: I had taken several cruises prior to reading this book, however I learn many valuable tips. This book is clear, concise and above all a "fun" read. I recommend it highly.
