Summary: This book comes with us on every vacation!!
Review: As the editor/webmaster for Pet Travel & Leisure, I travel with my pugs frequently. This is the book that started it all. Without it my dogs would probably be spending lots of time at the kennel. It is possible to travel with your pet, even large dogs- this book will tell you how.

Review: Don't waste your time or your money. I've tried to use this book on three different trips, all for different regions of the US and only ended up frustrated. I thought having the latest edition would make a difference. I guess not, I've had more people than I care to count tell me *I've worked here for X number of years and we have never allowed pets of any kind.* How this book received *1st Place Best Reference Book by the Dog Writers' Association of America* is beyond me.

Summary: Outdated, incomplete information
Review: Finding a place to stay with your pet is frustrating - but even more frustrating after trying to use this book. The information is outdated, the listings contain minimal information (name, address and telephone numbers), and many of the places that I called didn't even take pets anymore. There are a number of other ways to get far more detailed and comprehensive information on pet-friendly places to stay. I am sorry to say it, but this isn't one of them.

Summary: Excellent Resource
Review: GREAT BOOK!!! As an avid road tripper with my buddy Sam, I highly recommend this book. I keep it in my glove compartment, where it happens to fit perfectly. That way, I always know where it is and it's always where I need it. Whether I'm taking off spontaneously for a weekend or a week this book has never let me down. If you travel with your pet, this is the book that will make your hotel nights hassle free.

Summary: None of the places I stopped at allowed pet
Review: I don't know what would be a better book, but when I left on vacation with my cat, everyplace I stopped at didn't take pets. Perhaps there is a newer book?

Summary: I sent it back
Review: I ordered this book without reading the reviews. When I got it, it was really just an autobiography of the author with old infomation that wasn't accurate or helpful. Don't buy it, try another book.

Summary: Very outdated
Review: I tried to use Vacationing with your pet and found that it had bad phone numbers, incorrect information, and was generally no more helpful than the hotel guides that the hotels put out.

Summary: Used older edition for cross-country trip - great resource
Review: I was surprised to see all the negative reviews for this book - I have an older edition and liked it so much I came online to get an updated version for our next trip. I used it in 1996 driving from California to Maine with my dog (a large breed, btw), and it was a lifesaver. Everyplace I stopped that was on the list did indeed accept pets (some charged extra, some didn't). My only complaint was with one of the motels - they stuck me in a "pet room" (hotel code for it smells like cat p**s). But I just called the front desk and they gave me a new room.

I guess it's possible this book hasn't been updated since I used it, so I'll keep looking - but I just wanted to present another side.
