Summary: Worth reading and rereading
Review: ..., August 31, 2003,
Worth reading and rereading!
A variety of thought-provoking views emerge from this well-written (at times, even lyrical) book. The author lightly weaves his own life story and journey of awakening into the mystical ingredients of the Hawaiian Islands. He then correlates the order of the location of the islands with our own human energy votices, an intriguing perspective. He also connects these spiritual aspects with other places on the planets and presents some attractive techniques for accelerating each person's own journey of awakening. One of my favorite suggestions was to associate the 'cleaning up' of one's life with the actual ritual daily used to clean up our physical environment--really a neat idea. It seems to work!

Also recommended: Initiation by Elizabeth Haich, Urban Shaman by Serge Kahili King, Creating Affluence by Deepak Chopra

Summary: The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii
Review: As the author generously shares the agony of his souls journey, he teaches us not only about the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, the locations of the sacred sites where his healing began, but also of her people and the ancient wisdom of the Huna that is as relevant today as it was thousands of years before the first white man left his imprint upon her shores. You don't need to travel there to experience it all, but you'll want to. Pila provides the tools, the knowledge, and a map each of us can read to find our own pathway and to "connect to the real magic in life." A must read for anyone seeking to find joy in every moment of their life.

Summary: For the awakening Soul who is aware of Planetary change!!
Review: At a time when all souls on the planet are awakening, this very special book invites your soul to sing and explore the secrets and mysteries of the universal force of power and energy that exists not only in Hawaii but deep within yourself as well. Withe Pila the "seer" as your expert guide, you will be taken on a journey of adventure and discovery. You will become a "kahuna" student of the secrets, and you will learn that the body of the Hawaiian islands can be thought of as a symbolic body of all levels of mind, body and spirit. To know Hawaii is to know yourself and the answer to the yearning of your soul. There is no greater spokesperson on the spirit of Hawaii than this man "Pila" Chiles. He is the Gatekeeper of the soul of Hawaii. Dr. P. Sunray, author/Director, Sunray Healing Haven & National Interfaith Seminary

Summary: Secrets & Mysteries of Hawaii--the only book I won't loan
Review: I "stumbled" onto Secrets & Mysteries of Hawaii on my first trip to the Big island. I couldn't put the book down...read it in 2 days. I found it confirming of my own experiences on other islands and other trips to Hawaii; I found it breathtaking in its descriptions of the energies of the islands and the interconnectedness with the rest of the earth. I have told many people about it. I have given copies to people...but my copy never is far from my side.

If you haven't been to Hawaii and want to know why it "pulls" so many, this is the book for you. If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, this is a "must read." If you have been to Hawaii, and know it is "home," this is also a "must read."

Review: I bought this book months ago when I was researching HUNA. This book did not aid me that much on my spiritual path but I enjoyed this book very much.

Summary: Hauntingly soul stirring.
Review: I just bought the book "Secrets & Mysteries of Hawaii" and have read it through once already. (Of course I'm going to read it again). I related to everything that the author said in this book -- I was 'initiated' on the Big Island 6 years ago (during the solar eclipse). I visited several spots of the Island, and got a respectful salutation from Madame Pele. I never got to encounter a kahuna while on the Island, but I had a mystical experience there

Summary: A travelers companion, for the journey home to the heart
Review: I purchased this book a few weeks before I traveled to Hawaii, in 1997, and I felt as if reading it, prepared me for the energies and gifts of Hawaii. I knew when I arrived that I had arrived HOME, and I referred to the book, while I was there, for inspiration ,and confirmation. It is well written, and I recommend it highly, especially if you are planning a trip to any of the Hawaiian islands. I am returning there this summer, and am so glad I have it on my bookshelf to read once more. I know it will once again speak to my soul, just as Hawaii does. Aloha

Summary: An unusual guidebook
Review: I was browsing in the Hawaii/travel section of a bookstore in preparation for a trip to Hawaii not long ago and "Secrets & Mysteries of Hawaii" leaped off the shelf into my hands. Once I started to read it I found I couldn't put it down. The book is a "guide" book to the many worlds--both inner and outer--of Big Island, whereby Chiles explores his vision of Hawaii as spiritual metaphor for our contemporary times. Hawaiian culture, language, myth, gods, people and sacred places are brought to life by Chiles' vivid narrative and autobiographical perspective. It reads like an adventure story, is a veritable Hawaiian "bouillabaise", often wild and woolly stuff --complete with material on UFO's and angels. I had the feeling I was being given 'the inside story'-- told with humor, knowledge and self revelation as Chiles shares the continuing odyssey of his love and experience of Hawaii with the reader. At times I found myself very moved by passages in this unusual book, written with what I do belive is true 'aloha spirit'. Aspects of Hawaiian history are underscored by Chiles' passion for and commitment to the recent renaissance of Hawaiian culture and the growing Sovereignty movement. This is a wonderful book whether one is traveling to Hawaii or not, for as revealed by Pila Chiles, Hawaii can become an inner image for a way of being, available to any who would, with perseverance and sincerity, search for it.
